I love this car, nice gas mileage and the mid to upper class models have tons of features suitable for the whole family. The only downside that I have found is at the dealership - high prices, although you really only get what you pay for!

Is the 2018 Ford Fusion reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2018 Fusion is presented as a strong choice in its class, and the expert review emphasizes that it remains competitive despite not having been fully redesigned in more than half a decade. The performance write-up also points to a car that feels composed and rewarding to drive, while the cost-effectiveness discussion suggests Ford’s incentives and trim spread helped keep the model appealing to a wide range of buyers.
The tech and ownership experience also look reassuring, with Sync 3 replacing Ford’s older, less satisfying interface and adding modern convenience features. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by harder use or accident repairs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Fusion?
At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or has higher mileage. Focus on bodywork quality, panel alignment, tire wear, brake condition, and whether the electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans from basic to upscale and performance-oriented versions, and the base trim uses more hard plastic than higher-end versions. If you want a more polished cabin, look closely at the trims with upgraded materials and added comfort features.
- Powertrain: The Fusion is available with a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, and a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6. The performance-oriented setup is the most exciting, but it also uses premium fuel and returned 20.6 mpg on the test loop.
- Safety package: Ford offers a broad set of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, and the car can be equipped with optional inflatable rear seat belts. The review also notes that the Fusion needs better headlights and more easily accessible child safety seat anchors.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 is the key system to look for, and it supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Sync Connect with FordPass, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Siri Eyes Free, audible text messaging, 911 Assist, voice commands, and navigation. It is a major improvement over Ford’s older interface.
- Fuel efficiency: Hybrid versions are rated at 42 mpg in combined driving, and plug-in hybrid versions deliver 97 MPGe with about 20 miles of electric range.
Which 2018 Ford Fusion trim should I buy?
The 2018 Ford Fusion is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium, and Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with a more basic cabin.
- SE: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it sits in the sweet spot between price and equipment, and the expert review specifically notes that an SE with the optional turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and AWD can be a rewarding all-weather daily driver.
- Titanium: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
- Platinum: This is the pick if you want the most luxurious take on the Fusion lineup and are willing to pay for it.
Ford also offers a broad safety and driver-assistance menu, so it is worth checking which features are included on the specific car you are considering.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Fusion?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,811 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,645.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Ford Fusion's resale value?
The current average of $11,796 sits slightly below last year's $12,895.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce some of that depreciation pressure. The broad trim range and strong feature set should help the best-equipped examples stay more appealing than stripped-down ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Ford Fusion safe?
The 2018 Fusion performs beautifully in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety assessments, including the new front passenger’s side small overlap frontal impact test. It earns a three-star crash protection rating for the front passenger from NHTSA, and top marks in the other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford offers a broad set of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, and the car can be equipped with optional inflatable rear seat belts. The review also notes that the Fusion needs better headlights and more easily accessible child safety seat anchors.
Should I buy a 2018 Ford Fusion or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for its unusually broad lineup, ranging from basic and stylish versions to hybrid, plug-in hybrid, luxury-oriented, and sports-sedan variants.
The bottom line: If you want the widest possible spread of Fusion choices in one model year, the 2018 is a smart place to shop because it combines variety, strong tech, and a favorable price trend. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-condition examples and compare them carefully against nearby years with similar equipment.
