CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Ford Focus
overall

Summary
With 78 currently listed for sale near Naples, FL and an average price of $3,736.00, 14.1% of 2014 Ford Focus models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Ford Focus 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
71.8% of 2014 Focus models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Ford Focus stands out by feeling more substantial than a typical economy car. Its solid chassis and responsive suspension give it a composed, engaging character, while its still-fresh look helps it avoid the dated feel that can affect compact cars after a few years on the market. That combination makes it appealing to buyers who want a small car that does not feel stripped down or purely utilitarian.
It also benefits from the momentum of a redesign that kept it looking current among strong competitors. With more than 10 million examples rolling down the world’s highways, the Focus is a familiar sight, and its broad popularity adds to its appeal as a practical everyday choice. Owner feedback reinforces that image, with praise for its stylish design, excellent fuel economy, good features, and comfortable front seats.
At the same time, the 2014 Ford Focus is not without drawbacks. Recurring transmission issues have been reported, and those concerns can affect confidence in the car’s long-term reliability. For shoppers, that means the Focus can be attractive for its driving feel and efficiency, but it is also a model that deserves careful attention to its transmission history.

Stay clear of the Ford Focus SE 2014 -2018. Transmission is a ticking time bomb. Very unreliable. TCM among other transmission issues. Left me stranded more than once. Thank God I had USAA roadside support. Finally got fed up with it, trade it in for KIA RIO S.

It has good features. Lane change alerts would be good, better than some small cars, like the Sonic

I like how it looks and handles. It is very quiet and very smooth, especially around corners and over pot holes. I am very impressed overall with both the feel and maintenance and would definitely recommend it to anyone. Love it!

This is the first hatchback I have ever owned. This car handles pretty good and great fuel economy. I have always owned mustangs so it was very different owing this car. Over all this is a great car. The mods are out there to improve it and the market is still growing.

| Current Average Price | $7,103 |
| Year-Round Low | $6,859.31 |
| Year-Round High | $7,257.16 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $7,222 |

If you find a listing below $6,859.31, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Ford Focus a good car?
Generally — the 2014 Ford Focus earns 4/5 from owners and 7.67/10 from our experts.
The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Drivers repeatedly praise its stylish design, excellent fuel economy, and good features, including the sound system and comfortable front seats. The overview also points to a small car that feels more substantial than typical economy rivals, with a composed, engaging character and a look that still feels current. That makes it a strong fit if you want an everyday compact that feels a little more polished than stripped-down transportation.
With 22.0% of listings priced as good or great deals, there are still opportunities to find value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Ford Focus reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers also mention that it can be enjoyable to drive and a good value for money, while still being dependable enough to earn repeat praise for its overall ownership experience. At the same time, recurring transmission issues come up often enough that you should treat service history as a priority. The expert drive notes that the dual-clutch transmission can hunt and shudder in traffic, which reinforces the need to verify how the car has been maintained and driven.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is transmission-related ownership hassle, so a careful test drive and records review matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Focus?
At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on body condition, repair quality, and any signs of prior collision work. Because transmission concerns are a recurring theme, a thorough road test is especially important if you’re considering an automatic. Pay close attention to how the car shifts in stop-and-go traffic and whether it feels smooth under light throttle.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Titanium trim adds a more upscale feel with features like the handling package, 18-inch alloys, navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, Ford Sync, MyFord Touch, a rear-view camera, power heated mirrors, keyless entry and start, and the upgraded Sony sound system. Base S and SE trims are less equipped, and the safety content notes that they use rear drum brakes instead of the four-wheel discs found on other trims.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter direct-injection inline 4-cylinder with 160 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque, paired with a dual-clutch 6-speed PowerShift automatic. The engine is efficient and the chassis is strong, but the transmission can hunt and shudder in traffic. A 5-speed manual is also mentioned and returns 27 mpg city/37 highway with the automatic’s fuel economy.
- Safety package: Seven airbags come standard, including a driver’s knee airbag. The car also includes a full suite of standard safety equipment that helped it earn top crash-test results, but the braking hardware differs by trim, with S and SE getting rear drums and other trims getting four-wheel discs.
- Infotainment: The Titanium’s tech setup centers on an 8-inch touchscreen with Ford Sync and MyFord Touch, plus navigation and the Sony audio system. The system is feature-rich, but the interface is described as clunky and distracting, so you should judge usability carefully on a test drive.
- Fuel efficiency: The automatic returns 27 mpg city/37 highway, while the manual drops 1 mpg on both ends.
Which 2014 Ford Focus trim should I buy?
The 2014 Ford Focus is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the simplest way into the Focus lineup, but it also comes with the most basic hardware. The safety content notes rear drum brakes here, so you’re giving up some of the braking hardware found on higher trims.
- SE: This is the trim most shoppers should start with if they want a balance of price and equipment. It keeps the Focus’s core strengths while avoiding the Titanium’s more expensive tech-heavy setup.
- Titanium: This is the best-equipped choice and the one that best shows off the Focus’s stronger chassis, available handling package, upgraded audio, navigation, and convenience features. It’s the right pick if you want the most polished version and are willing to pay more for it.
Safety content also notes that S and SE trims use rear drum brakes, while other trims get four-wheel discs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Ford Focus?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward comparison shopping.
- Deal availability: 22.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,163 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $6,859.31, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Ford Focus's resale value?
The current average of $7,103 sits slightly below last year's $7,222.
That kind of softening suggests the market is still giving buyers some leverage, which can work against you if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, it can also help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you’ll be better positioned when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Ford Focus safe?
It earns a five-star overall score from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash for the passenger and rollover testing, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it Good ratings in all tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Seven airbags come standard, including a driver’s knee airbag. The safety content also highlights strong braking performance on trims with four-wheel discs and performance tires, especially the Titanium. One caveat is that S and SE trims use rear drum brakes, which means safety and stopping performance can vary by trim.
Should I buy a 2014 Ford Focus or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 22.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 keeps the refreshed look and engaging chassis that helped it feel current among compact-car rivals.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $7,718, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $7,103 average.
- It brings a more polished, European-influenced ride and handling feel.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2014 if you want the lower price and strong feature set, especially on a well-equipped trim. If you’re willing to spend more for a slightly more refined driving feel, the 2015 is the better secondary path.
