Used 2014 Dodge Journey for Sale nearHouston, TX

How much does the 2014 Dodge Journey cost?

Prices have softened 2.99% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 441 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2014 Dodge Journey a good car?

Generally — the 2014 Dodge Journey earns a 4/5 user rating and a 5.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

The Journey’s appeal comes through in its practical, easy-to-use interior, storage-friendly cabin, low price, powerful V6 option, and good crash-test ratings. It also fits shoppers who want a straightforward crossover SUV with everyday usefulness and an available Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen that makes the cabin feel more modern than its basic reputation suggests.

That said, the source material also makes clear that the Journey has drawbacks, so it works best if you value utility and value over polish. 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 Dodge Journey reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Journey’s reliability picture is mixed in the source material: it is described as a practical, value-focused crossover, but its cost-of-ownership outlook is weaker than many rivals. The expert notes also point to below-average long-term reliability expectations and average quality, which means the vehicle’s strengths are more about usefulness than durability leadership.

The 3.6-liter V6 is described as strong, and the 6-speed automatic is tuned to help maximize fuel economy, but the transmission’s behavior and the brake pedal’s feel suggest some refinement issues. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about wear, upkeep, and overall ownership costs than about one single catastrophic flaw.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Journey?

At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on crash repairs, body alignment, and signs of uneven wear. Because the Journey’s value proposition depends heavily on condition, you’ll want to pay close attention to how well the cabin, drivetrain, and electronics have held up.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the budget-oriented American Value Package to the more equipped SE, the popular SXT and SXT Plus, the more luxurious Limited, the sportier R/T, and the Crossroad. The base version is aimed at buyers who want maximum room for minimal money, while the SE adds more equipment and popular options.
• Powertrain: A 173-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder is standard in some versions, while a 283-hp 3.6-liter V6 is strongly recommended in the expert review. The V6 is described as powerful and refined, and it pairs with a 6-speed automatic that helps it return fuel-economy numbers nearly as good as the smaller engine.
• Safety package: The Journey includes a standard knee airbag for the driver. A reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors are available depending on trim, but the safety tech is otherwise limited.
• Infotainment: The available Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen is a major highlight, with easy Bluetooth pairing, large graphics and icons, big virtual buttons, voice command, real-time traffic and weather, and optional Wi-Fi hotspot capability. Uconnect Access smartphone integration is not available.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 17 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined.

Which 2014 Dodge Journey trim should I buy?

The 2014 Dodge Journey is offered in 6 trim levels: American Value Package, SE, SXT, SXT Plus, Limited, and R/T.

Here's the short version:

• American Value Package: This is the least-expensive version and is aimed at buyers who want maximum room for minimal money. It makes sense if your priority is getting into a Journey at the lowest possible cost.
• SE: This trim adds more equipment and popular options, making it the better starting point if you want a more usable everyday setup without moving too far up the price ladder.
• SXT: The SXT is one of the best-selling versions, and it’s a strong middle-ground choice if you want a well-rounded mix of equipment and value.
• SXT Plus: This is the trim used in the expert review vehicle, and it can be equipped with the Popular Equipment Group, Sun/Sound Group, Navigation Group, V6 engine, leather seats, and the Blacktop Package. It’s the best-value pick if you want a more appealing and better-equipped Journey without jumping all the way to the top trims.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the more luxurious version of the Journey. It also comes standard with the V6.
• R/T: This is the sportier version, and it also comes standard with the V6.

The safety content notes that a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors are optional depending on trim level, so it’s worth checking whether a specific used example has those features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Dodge Journey?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 441 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.99% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $6,393, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Dodge Journey's resale value?

The current average of $6,586 sits slightly below last year's $6,789.

That downward move suggests the Journey is still a value-oriented buy, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market keeps favoring lower-priced used crossovers. Because the current average is already near the lower end of the year-round range, there may be limited room for appreciation unless the vehicle is especially clean, well-equipped, or unusually well maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Dodge Journey safe?

The 2014 Dodge Journey earns four-star ratings in every individual NHTSA assessment, and the IIHS gives it the top rating of Good in all tests for which it has been assessed.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment includes a driver knee airbag, while a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors are available depending on trim. The source material also notes that the Journey lacks more advanced safety technology, and the IIHS had not conducted a small-overlap frontal-impact test for this model year, so it was not eligible for a Top Safety Pick designation.

Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Journey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says the Journey offers a low pricetag, practical interior, powerful V6 engine, and good crash-test ratings, but also makes clear that the model’s positives are balanced by negatives and that a full redesign was needed.

The bottom line: if you want a low-cost, practical crossover and you find a clean example with the right equipment, the 2014 Journey can still make sense. If you’re price-sensitive, you can be more selective and wait for a well-kept listing near the low end of the range, but you should still prioritize condition and history over mileage alone.
