What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Impala?

At 52.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower asking price. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment works as expected, since the model’s appeal depends heavily on comfort and feature content. If you’re shopping a trim with more advanced equipment, make sure those systems are fully functional before you buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS starts with Bluetooth connectivity, OnStar telematics, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and 18-inch steel wheels, while the LS Eco adds 18-inch alloy wheels and dual-zone climate control. The LT 1LT brings the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the LTZ adds push-button ignition, remote start, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, and 19-inch alloys. The LTZ is the most feature-rich choice, while the LS is the most stripped-down.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 4-cylinder with direct injection and 195 hp, the Eco trims use a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack, and the V6 delivers 305 hp and 264 lb-ft. All Impalas use a 6-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: The LTZ models include forward-collision alert, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, and passive keyless entry. Intelligent cruise control with crash-imminent braking is also available on LTZ models. Many of these features are optional on lesser trims.
• Infotainment: The Chevrolet MyLink system uses an 8-inch touchscreen and includes Bluetooth streaming audio, voice controls, and Pandora internet radio. It also offers USB connectivity and a hidden storage compartment with a lockable passcode feature.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4-cylinder engine is rated at 21 mpg city/31 highway, the Eco powertrain is suggested at 25/35, and the V6 is rated at 21 mpg city/28 highway.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Impala trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, LS Eco, LT 1LT, LT 2LT, LT Eco, LTZ 1LTZ, LTZ 2LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics plus Bluetooth, OnStar, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Impala, but it’s the least feature-rich choice.
• LS Eco: This trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels and dual-zone climate control, but its main draw is the eAssist hybrid system. It suits you if fuel economy matters more than extra power.
• LT 1LT: This is the best-value pick for many shoppers because it adds the MyLink system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It’s the trim that most clearly brings the Impala into modern-family-sedan territory.
• LT 2LT: This version keeps the 1LT equipment and adds the V6 engine. Choose it if you want stronger acceleration without moving all the way up to the luxury-leaning LTZ trims.
• LT Eco: This trim combines the LT equipment with the eAssist powertrain. It’s the right fit if you want the mid-level feature set and the efficiency-focused setup together.
• LTZ 1LTZ: This is the most upscale version, with push-button ignition, remote start, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, and 19-inch alloys. It also adds more advanced safety equipment, so it’s the one to target if comfort and safety tech matter most.
• LTZ 2LTZ: This trim adds the V6 to the LTZ equipment list. Buy it if you want the most powerful version and don’t mind paying for it.

The LTZ models bring the most complete safety package, while many of those features are optional on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Impala?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 535 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,724, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala's resale value?

The current average of $9,869 sits slightly below last year's $10,723.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the car in clean condition, you’ll be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range. The Impala’s broad appeal as a comfortable, stylish full-size sedan should help it remain marketable, but resale will still depend heavily on mileage, condition, and equipment level.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS in the moderate front overlap crash test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety package includes 10 airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, and OnStar with automatic crash response and roadside assistance. Higher trims add forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, a rear-view camera, a blind-spot monitor, rear parking sensors, and passive keyless entry. Intelligent cruise control with crash-imminent braking is also available on LTZ models. The main caveat is that many of the more advanced driver-assistance features are not standard on lower trims.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Impala or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings the redesigned styling, strong ride quality, and premium-feeling features that define this generation.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,856, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $9,869 average.
• It adds a bit more space and trunk room.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a broad feature set. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly roomier follow-up year, the 2015 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2014 and shop carefully for a clean, well-equipped example.
