What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Impala?

At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Start with a vehicle history report and make sure you understand any prior damage before you go further. You should also focus on overall condition, since the best used examples will show careful ownership and consistent maintenance.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with the LS, which includes Bluetooth connectivity, OnStar telematics, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 4-cylinder engine. The LS Eco adds alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and the eAssist hybrid system. The LT 1LT brings the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the 2LT adds a V6. The LT Eco combines LT equipment with eAssist. The LTZ 1LTZ adds push-button ignition, remote start, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, 19-inch alloys, and more safety gear. The LTZ 2LTZ adds the V6. The best-value trim is the LT 1LT if you want the core tech and comfort upgrades without moving all the way up the range.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 195 hp and is EPA-rated at 21 mpg city/31 highway. The eAssist setup pairs a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, electric motor, and lithium-ion battery pack for 182 hp, with Chevy suggesting 25/35 average fuel economy. The 3.6-liter V6 delivers 305 hp and 21 mpg city/28 highway, and all versions use a 6-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The available safety suite includes forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, a rear-view camera, a blind-spot monitor, rear parking sensors, passive keyless entry, and intelligent cruise control with crash-imminent braking. Some of these features are standard on LTZ models and optional on lesser trims, so check carefully if you want the full package.
• Infotainment: The MyLink system uses an 8-inch touchscreen and adds Bluetooth streaming audio, Pandora internet radio, voice controls, USB connectivity, and a hidden storage compartment with a lockable passcode feature. Lower trims may lack the touchscreen and Bluetooth features that matter most to you.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 21 mpg city/31 highway, the eAssist setup is suggested at 25/35, and the V6 is rated at 21 mpg city/28 highway.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Impala trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, LS Eco, LT 1LT, LT 2LT, LT Eco, LTZ 1LTZ, LTZ 2LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you Bluetooth, OnStar, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and the 4-cylinder engine. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Impala, but it’s the most basic choice.
• LS Eco: This trim adds alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and the eAssist hybrid system. Choose it if fuel economy matters more to you than outright power.
• LT 1LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It’s the sweet spot if you want the Impala’s modern tech without paying for the upper trims.
• LT 2LT: This version adds the V6, so it’s the right pick if you want stronger acceleration while staying below LTZ pricing.
• LT Eco: This trim combines LT equipment with the eAssist powertrain. It suits you if you want the mid-level features and the efficiency-focused setup together.
• LTZ 1LTZ: This is the most feature-rich 4-cylinder version, with push-button ignition, remote start, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, 19-inch alloys, and more safety equipment. It’s the right choice if comfort and safety features matter most.
• LTZ 2LTZ: This trim adds the V6 to the LTZ equipment list. Pick it if you want the strongest engine with the most upscale feature set.

The LTZ models include the most advanced safety features, while many of those items are optional on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Impala?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 25.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 536 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,722, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala's resale value?

The current average of $9,916 sits slightly below last year's $10,594.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be helpful if you’re buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. A softer price trend usually means future resale gains may be limited unless the car is especially clean, well equipped, and well maintained. If you buy carefully, you can reduce your own depreciation exposure by choosing a strong-condition example at a fair price.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety suite includes 10 airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, OnStar automatic crash response, roadside assistance, forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, a rear-view camera, a blind-spot monitor, rear parking sensors, passive keyless entry, and optional intelligent cruise control with crash-imminent braking. Some of those features are standard on LTZ models and optional on lesser trims, so trim choice matters if safety tech is a priority.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Impala or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 25.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It was reborn with standout styling, a strong ride-and-handling package, and premium-feeling materials.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,527, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $9,916 average.
• It adds a bit more space and trunk room.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a compelling feature set. If you’re willing to spend more for a slightly roomier follow-up year, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
