How much does the 2014 BMW X5 cost?

Is the 2014 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2014 BMW X5 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, luxurious feel, sporty handling, spaciousness, top-notch features, and good fuel economy. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a luxury SUV that still feels engaging behind the wheel and useful for everyday driving.

The market also shows 33.7% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with repeated praise for its strong performance, luxurious feel, spaciousness, and good fuel economy. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the X5’s solid build and the way BMW refined the model into a more polished, well-rounded luxury SUV.

BMW’s cost and maintenance profile can still matter on a used example, so you should pay close attention to service history and signs of deferred upkeep. Heavy oil usage is a concern some owners mention, which makes a careful pre-purchase inspection especially important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 BMW X5?

At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A thorough inspection should focus on bodywork quality, panel alignment, and signs of wear that could point to harder use or incomplete repairs. Because this is a luxury SUV with performance leanings, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sDrive35i is the least expensive X5 and has the least amount of goodies, while the xDrive35i adds AWD. The xDrive50i brings the V8 and the sportier character, and the M Sport Line adds sportier steering wheel, M Sport transmission, 19-inch wheels, and revised aerodynamic body work.
• Powertrain: The X5 is offered with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder, a 3.0-liter diesel, and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. The diesel is highlighted for its blend of torque and fuel economy, while the V8 is the performance standout.
• Safety package: The X5 includes a full complement of front and side impact airbags, plus a vivid backup camera with directional guides. The large iDrive screen can also show multiple displays at once.
• Infotainment: The X5 uses a 10.2-inch iDrive screen with rotary-dial control and joystick functionality. It supports Bluetooth-connected phone functions and touch-sensitive character entry.
• Fuel efficiency: The sDrive35i returns 19/27 mpg, the xDrive35i returns 18/27 mpg, the xDrive35d returns 23/31 mpg, and the xDrive50i is listed at 14/22 mpg.

Which 2014 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2014 BMW X5 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive35i, xDrive35i, xDrive35d, and xDrive50i.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive35i: This is the least expensive entry point, and it gives you the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with rear-wheel drive. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without AWD.
• xDrive35i: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it keeps the same 300 hp engine but adds AWD. If you want a more balanced all-weather setup without jumping to the pricier diesel or V8, this is the trim to target.
• xDrive35d: This is the efficiency-minded pick, with the 3.0-liter diesel and strong torque. It suits you best if highway fuel economy and towing-friendly power matter more than outright speed.
• xDrive50i: This is the performance choice, with the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and the quickest acceleration in the range. It fits you if you want the most power and are comfortable with higher fuel costs.

The M Sport Line is a separate option that adds sportier hardware and styling, but it is not a trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 BMW X5?

The market looks selective but workable if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 790 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,734, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $11,852 sits slightly below last year's $13,015.

That decline suggests the market has become more buyer-friendly, which can make it harder for you to command a premium if you sell soon. If you own a clean, well-maintained example, you may still do better than average because condition and history matter a lot in this segment. The strongest listings should continue to attract attention, but pricing competitively will matter.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 BMW X5 safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The X5 also has a full complement of front and side impact airbags, plus a vivid backup camera with directional guides to help you see behind the vehicle more clearly. The large iDrive screen can display multiple views at once, which adds convenience when you are monitoring vehicle status or navigation.

For a used buyer, the main safety takeaway is to verify that the camera, display, and driver-facing controls all work properly, since those features are part of the X5’s everyday safety experience.

Should I buy a 2014 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 marks the first year of the third generation, with a more refined design and a much improved iDrive system.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,401, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,852 average.
• It emphasizes the X5’s handling balance and all-wheel-drive character.

The bottom line: If you want the lower average price and strong owner satisfaction, the 2014 is the better starting point. If you are willing to spend more for a nearby-year alternative, the 2015 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2014.
