How much does the 2014 BMW 4 Series cost?

There are 548 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2014 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2014 BMW 4 Series earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its performance, sleek design, and high-quality interior, along with the driving experience, power, handling, and comfort. That lines up with the overview’s focus on a sporty daily driver that still works as a practical premium coupe. If you want a car that feels engaging without giving up everyday usability, this model year fits that brief well.

The market also shows 34.7% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because it delivers the kind of performance and comfort they want day after day. The expert notes also emphasize that it is a fun-to-drive coupe with controls that are very driver friendly, which supports the idea of a car that feels dependable in regular use. At the same time, higher maintenance costs are part of the ownership picture, so long-term risk for used buyers is more about upkeep expense than basic appeal.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 BMW 4 Series?

At 48.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior bodywork or cosmetic repairs. Focus on condition details that matter in a sporty coupe: interior wear, signs of hard use, and whether the car’s equipment works as expected. Because this model can carry higher maintenance costs, it also makes sense to check service records carefully.

Key things to evaluate:

• Powertrain: The 428i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, while the 435i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. The 4-cylinder is the better fit if you want the lighter, more efficient-feeling setup.
• Safety package: The car comes with front and side impact airbags, and the test model included a backup camera. More active safety tech requires paying more, so check carefully which equipment is actually on the car you’re considering.
• Infotainment: The test model’s iDrive system is capable but can take time to learn. It lacked navigation and streaming Bluetooth audio, so verify the exact tech features before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The 428i returns 23 mpg city and 35 mpg highway with the automatic transmission, while the xDrive version is rated at 22 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The 435i returns 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.

Which 2014 BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2014 BMW 4 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 428i, 435i.

Here's the short version:

• 428i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core 4 Series experience with the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, strong efficiency, and the lighter, more playful feel the expert review favors. It is the trim most clearly aligned with the model’s sporty daily-driver mission.
• 435i: Choose this if you want more power and a stronger straight-line punch from the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder. It suits you best if performance matters more than efficiency.

The safety content notes that the car comes with standard airbags and a backup camera, while more active safety tech requires paying more.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 BMW 4 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 548 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 48.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,094, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $12,243 sits slightly below last year's $13,555.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that pricing pressure has been real, so condition and equipment will matter more when it comes time to list the car. Well-kept examples should still draw interest because the model has a strong enthusiast appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 BMW 4 Series safe?

The 2014 BMW 4 Series comes with front and side impact airbags and a backup camera, but more active safety tech requires paying more.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety write-up also points to a caveat with the backup camera: the image quality is poor enough at night that it can be hard to rely on. That means you should verify camera function carefully and not assume every used example will have the same equipment level or performance.

Should I buy a 2014 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 BMW 4 Series is positioned as a sporty daily driver that balances fun and practicality.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,522, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,243 average.
• The 2015 moves further away from the 3 Series and offers a more distinctive coupe and convertible design.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you care more about updated styling and a more distinctive identity, the 2015 is worth a look, but you’ll pay more for it.
