CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 582 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,042.00, 31.4% of 2014 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Acura MDX 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
57.9% of 2014 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Acura MDX stands out as a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to balance refinement with athletic ability. Acura describes its driving character as exacting and finely tuned, delivering the luxurious experience most owners want while still retaining the athleticism most owners need. That combination is a big part of its appeal: it is meant to feel polished without giving up the responsiveness buyers expect from an Acura.
Compared with the previous MDX, the 2014 model is presented as a more broadly appealing SUV. Acura says it may not look as exciting as the old MDX, but it is a better SUV in almost every respect, and it is not simply a stretched seven-passenger version of the smaller Acura RDX with fancy LED headlights. Owner feedback generally reinforces that appeal, with praise for luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy.
There are also a few caveats worth noting. Some owners have raised concerns about seat comfort and a decline in material quality compared with earlier models. Even so, the 2014 Acura MDX remains distinctive for buyers who want a family-friendly crossover that still emphasizes a carefully tuned driving experience.

I can't get over the handling. So responsive with a very tight turning radius. Lots of power, nearly 300 HP. The engine has the ability to shut down three of the six cylinders under certain steady state conditions so the highway mileage is usually around 27-28 mpg. Highly recommend this vehicle. I have owned about 70 cars thus far and would put this one in the top three. A few years back I wrote a book about 40 of the more interesting ones, titled Forty Cars That Owned Me. I'll have to add this one when I revise the book to bring it up to date.

How much does the 2014 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,143 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,037.41 |
| Year-Round High | $13,332.90 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,336 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.95% |
Prices have softened 8.95% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 581 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $12,037.41, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Acura MDX earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy. That lines up with the overview: you get a family-friendly three-row crossover that still aims to feel polished and athletic rather than purely utilitarian.
With 33.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a strong-value example if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free in everyday use, with owners especially appreciating the long-term comfort, smooth operation, and overall confidence it inspires. The expert drive notes also describe the MDX as finely tuned and expertly calibrated, which supports the sense that it is built to be counted on over time.
The ownership picture is still mixed enough that you should pay close attention to maintenance records and condition, especially on higher-mileage examples.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Acura MDX?
At 56.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident or repair history. Focus on signs of uneven wear, interior condition, and how well the vehicle’s luxury features and driver-assistance systems are working. Because owner feedback mentions seat comfort and material-quality concerns, it is worth checking the cabin closely for wear, damage, and overall upkeep.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is relatively light on equipment beyond Bluetooth connectivity and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, a reversing camera, and Jewel Eye LED headlights. The Technology Package adds keyless access, navigation with real-time traffic, a premium sound system, GPS-linked climate control, and several driver-assistance features, while the Technology and Entertainment Package adds rear-seat entertainment and heated rear seats. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds the most luxury and convenience equipment, including ventilated front seats, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, plus a 6-speed automatic transmission. Variable Cylinder Management helps conserve fuel, and SH-AWD is optional if you want the added torque-vectoring effect.
- Safety package: The Technology Package includes Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist, and Collision Mitigation Braking. Base versions are much lighter on safety tech.
- Infotainment: Every MDX gets twin display screens, but the lower touchscreen controls stereo and other functions. The Technology Package adds navigation and AcuraLink real-time traffic, while the Technology and Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat DVD system with a 9-inch screen. The Advance and Entertainment Package upgrades to a 16.2-inch widescreen display.
- Fuel efficiency: The fully loaded test vehicle was rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, for a combined 21 mpg. The review also notes that the MDX is expected to hold its value over time.
Which 2014 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2014 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Technology Package, Technology and Entertainment Package, and Advance and Entertainment Package.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the least expensive way into the MDX, but it is also the most stripped-down. You still get the core luxury crossover experience, yet you miss out on the navigation, upgraded audio, and most of the driver-assistance and convenience features that make the higher packages more compelling.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the features that most improve daily use: navigation, real-time traffic, premium audio, keyless access, and important safety tech. If you want the most balanced mix of price and equipment, this is the trim to target.
- Technology and Entertainment Package: Choose this if you need rear-seat entertainment and heated rear seats. It builds on the Technology Package and makes the MDX more appealing for families who will regularly use the second and third rows.
- Advance and Entertainment Package: This is the most fully equipped version, adding ventilated front seats, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. It is the right pick if you want the most luxury and the most driver-assistance content.
The safety-package content makes clear that the higher packages carry the most meaningful driver-assistance upgrades, while the base version stays comparatively sparse.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 581 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.95% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,037.41, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $12,143 sits slightly below last year's $13,336.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while. For a future seller, that also means your upside may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market appreciation.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX safe?
The IIHS says the MDX gets a Good rating in both the moderate overlap frontal-impact test and the side-impact test, and its front crash prevention rating is Advanced.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The Technology Package includes Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist, and Collision Mitigation Braking. The review also notes that Lane Departure Warning can be overly sensitive and that some of the more advanced driver aids may be irritating in real-world use.
Should I buy a 2014 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.95% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesigned 2014 MDX is described as a better SUV in almost every respect than the previous version.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned MDX’s stronger overall package, the 2014 is the one to focus on. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can use the softened market and decent deal availability to shop selectively and prioritize condition, equipment, and accident history over simply chasing the lowest sticker price.
