CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 46 currently listed for sale near Miami, FL and an average price of $7,175.00, 15.2% of 2014 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Acura MDX 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
58.7% of 2014 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Acura MDX stands out as a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to balance refinement with athletic ability. Acura describes its driving character as exacting and finely tuned, delivering the luxurious experience most owners want while still retaining the athleticism most owners need. That combination is a big part of its appeal: it is meant to feel polished without giving up the responsiveness buyers expect from an Acura.
Compared with the previous MDX, the 2014 model is presented as a more broadly appealing SUV. Acura says it may not look as exciting as the old MDX, but it is a better SUV in almost every respect, and it is not simply a stretched seven-passenger version of the smaller Acura RDX with fancy LED headlights. Owner feedback generally reinforces that appeal, with praise for luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy.
There are also a few caveats worth noting. Some owners have raised concerns about seat comfort and a decline in material quality compared with earlier models. Even so, the 2014 Acura MDX remains distinctive for buyers who want a family-friendly crossover that still emphasizes a carefully tuned driving experience.

I can't get over the handling. So responsive with a very tight turning radius. Lots of power, nearly 300 HP. The engine has the ability to shut down three of the six cylinders under certain steady state conditions so the highway mileage is usually around 27-28 mpg. Highly recommend this vehicle. I have owned about 70 cars thus far and would put this one in the top three. A few years back I wrote a book about 40 of the more interesting ones, titled Forty Cars That Owned Me. I'll have to add this one when I revise the book to bring it up to date.

The expert review also describes the MDX as finely tuned and well calibrated, with strong, refined power delivery and a ride that stays quiet and composed.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some listings may have wear or condition issues that are easier to miss without a careful inspection and history check.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Acura MDX?
At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, interior wear, and how well the electronics and driver-assistance features are working. Because this model is a luxury three-row SUV, condition matters a lot: a well-kept example can feel very different from one that has been neglected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is relatively sparse on technology beyond Bluetooth, music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, a reversing camera, and Jewel Eye LED headlights. The Technology Package adds keyless access, navigation, premium audio, GPS-linked climate control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot information, and 19-inch wheels. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds rear-seat DVD entertainment, wireless headphones, a remote control, a power outlet, and heated rear seats. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds a larger display, premium perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming side mirrors, remote engine start, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, uses Variable Cylinder Management to conserve fuel, and pairs with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and SH-AWD is optional. The setup is tuned for strong, refined acceleration and confident handling.
- Safety package: The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. Base versions miss those added driver-assistance features.
- Infotainment: Every MDX gets twin display screens, but the base version is relatively light on tech. The Technology Package adds navigation and AcuraLink real-time traffic. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat DVD system with a 9-inch screen, while the Advance and Entertainment Package replaces it with a 16.2-inch widescreen display.
- Fuel efficiency: The MDX is rated at 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, with a combined 21 mpg. The test vehicle returned 22 mpg with an emphasis on highway driving.
Which 2014 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2014 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Technology Package, Technology and Entertainment Package, and Advance and Entertainment Package.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: This is the most stripped-down version, with only the essentials and without the added convenience, navigation, or driver-assistance features found higher up.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Technology Package is the best value if you want the biggest jump in everyday usefulness, because it adds navigation, premium audio, keyless access, and important safety tech without going all the way to the top package.
- Premium/top trim: The Advance and Entertainment Package is the most fully equipped choice, adding the larger display, premium leather, ventilated front seats, remote start, parking sensors, and the most advanced driver-assistance features.
The Technology Package is the key safety-package step up if you want blind spot information, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Acura MDX?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 602 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.90% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,039.12, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $12,251 sits slightly below last year's $13,159.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Well-kept examples should be easier to move than neglected ones, especially in a segment where buyers compare features and history closely.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX safe?
The IIHS says the MDX gets a Good rating in both the moderate overlap frontal-impact test and the side-impact test, and its front crash prevention rating is Advanced.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The blind-spot information system is a standout feature, and the Technology Package adds forward collision warning and lane departure warning. Higher packages add adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. The review also notes that lane departure warning can be overly sensitive and sometimes inaccurate, so that is worth testing carefully on your own drive.
Should I buy a 2014 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.90% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesigned 2014 model brings a stronger engine, improved efficiency, and a more modern cabin layout.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned MDX with strong performance, good fuel economy, and broad owner approval, the 2014 is a solid target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can shop carefully and focus on clean-history examples near the low end of the range, since the market already shows some softness.
