If you want to go hybrid, but can’t give up the comfort and performance of a luxury sport sedan, there’s a clear-cut choice for you – the 2009 Lexus GS 450h. The GS 450h also assists the driver with its Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system, which assimilates the steering and braking along with Lexus’s Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control systems to help maintain traction in adverse conditions. The GS 450h's 22/25 mpg mileage may not seem like much for a hybrid, but remember, this is a luxury sedan, and it's rated as a Super-Low Emissions Vehicle II. If the mileage doesn’t strike you as remarkable, then the regenerative braking probably will. Energy that is normally lost as heat during braking is captured by the GS 450h with an electric motor/generator and is then transferred into the battery. The innovation extends to the transmission. The Electronically Controlled continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) uses planetary gears and eliminates specific gear ratios. The ECVT features a two-speed torque multiplication device that will enable you to choose between three self-explanatory settings: power, normal, and snow. Standard safety features include variable-force front airbags for the driver and passenger, seat-mounted side airbags for the front, side curtain airbags for both the front and rear, and four-sensor antilock brakes with Brake Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.
