The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was unchanged in the 2006 model year, its second year of production. And it stands to reason - the car, built as a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler and the McLaren auto group, seemed perfect in 2005.
Only 500 of the two-seaters are made each model year, translating into a pricetag that flirts with a half-million dollars. A 5.4-liter V8 engine lends the car an astonishing 617 horsepower.
The SLR McLaren also makes unique use of materials. Rather than being built from cast iron and sheet metal, the car's components are crafted from carbon-fiber composite.

(5 reviews)To say the McLaren SLR is amazing is an understatement. Insatiable power, exquisite attention to detail, and looks that scream class just exude from this car. Handling a tad light around corners but holds the road very well. Truely an awe insipiring car to look at, and driving it is just on another level. Only negatives, the car is very expensive on maintenance, and fuel consumption is not that much better. But seriously, when you buy a car like this, who really cares about fuel or tires? This car is meant to be used and used for what it was meant - to be a hardcore, boy racer!

Great acceleration, noisey brakes although that is now sorted
I worked at my local Mercedes-Benz dealership, which just so happens to be in an extremely affluent area, so I was lucky enough to drive one of these beautiful monsters from philadelphia to new jersey after the vehicle was in for service. I was 19 at the time and had drven cars with close to the same horsepower this thing puts out so I wasn't afraid to push it a little on the highway. I hit 130 without trying too hard. I got looks of astonishment at every red light I hit on my travels, looks that turned to anger and jealousy as people saw a teenager in the drivers seat of a car they assumed I owned.
