Inspired by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR of 1955, DaimlerChrysler and McLaren launched the fruits of a joint venture in the 2005 model year. The 2005 Mercedes SLR McLaren was classified as a "supercar" in line with high-end Porsches.
The SLR McLaren's 617 horsepower engine served up "addictive" speed and torque that brought on "mind-boggling elasticity." The car uses an engine developed by Mercedes' high-end AMG unit but most of those engines are housed in steel bodied vehicles, not the significantly lighter, 3,800-pound SLR.
Only 500 cars were slated to be built in each model year, including 2005. That gave the SLR McLaren a price tag out of reach for all but the most exclusive car buyers.

(5 reviews)Performance â acceleration, braking, handling-All great. Build Quality â has it needed repairs? squeaks/rattles-None. Appearance â both interior and exterior styling-Gorgeous. Cost of Ownership â gas mileage, maintenance-Not to expensive. Fun Factor â is this car fun to drive? Yes it is really fun. Yes I would recomend it for a friend.
Great car for show but not much get up and go. Always draws a nice crowd at cruise nights. handling is poor as tires a re the original type and steering is adventurous. A very nice #4 restoration and Susans favorite color. I think that's how we talked into buying it. also she fell in love with one with a brown top same color up at Lime Rock a few years before.
# Performance - good # Build Quality -good # Appearance -stylish # Cost of Ownership - high # Fun Factor - fun to drive the best car ever built by benz buy it if u can go for it its worth it its fantastic super good looking best
THIS CAR HANDLES THE BEST I HAVE EVER DROVE...HUGS THE ROAD PERFECTLY...NEXT TO THE 2003 TRANS AM I HAD THIS ONE IS JUST AS QUICK BUT MUCH LIGHTER. IT IS A QUIET RIDE, COMFORTABLE AND SMOOTH FOR ITS SIZE. NOT AS HEAVY AS MOST MUSCLE CARS THAT I USUALLY PERFER BUT WOULD GIVE THE 67 CAMERO A RUN FOR IT'S MONEY. WOULD GET THE CAMERO OFF THE LINE BUT WOULD GET BLOWEN AWAY ONCE THE CAMERO CAUGHT UP TO IT. THE CAR LOOKS SHARP AND IS CLASSEY AS HELL. THE COST OF IT EVEN AT WHOLESALE IS A BIT MORE THAN IT IS ACTUALLY WORTH IN MY OPINION. ITS FUN TO DRIVE ESPECIALLY ON THE BC HWYS.
wel like i always say i love every thing on wheels, so i love it, but there are some things within the car we just hate, like those head lights and the whole wood interior inside thing i think mercedes must just stop making these things they just don't do it for me but other than that ,i love the perfomance its grate and the car as you can see it, its definitly build for speed and comfort
