Overview

The 2002 Subaru Legacy is considered a safe and reliable car, and its GT models add a touch of sporty handling behind the wheel. Available in both sedans and wagons, with the wagons by far the most popular choice for families, the 2002 Legacy gets some additional features this year, but remains fairly unchanged. There is one engine for the whole lineup -- a 2.5-liter, 165-hp boxer H4 engine with 5-speed manual. A 4-speed automatic is optional.
The 2002 Legacy offers three sedans (L, GT, and GT Limited) and two wagons (L and GT). All feature a lightweight full-time AWD, and the GTs add on a limited slip differential, bigger wheels, and sports suspension. This year, the GTs also get bigger brakes, lighted ignition switch, and wood trim for the interior door panels. The sedans get an interior trunk release. An All-Weather Package is available on the GT Limited, with heated mirrors and seats and a wiper de-icer. The base model L sedan and wagon comes with power features and cruise control, while the GT upgrades to a sunroof (dual-pane on the wagon), keyless entry, a power driver's seat, and foglights. Moving up to the Limited gives you leather seats. ABS is standard across the line, as are dual front airbags. Side impact bags come with the GT Limited.
The 2002 Legacy wagons are popular for their versatility and 68.6 cubic feet of cargo room with the seats down. The sedans do not have folding seats. Their high crash test ratings are also attractive to families. By far the biggest highlight is the outstanding all-wheel drive performance in wintry climates. Drivers are not cowed by whatever the weather throws at them. Handling is also praised, and owners feel the wagon is a great value for what you get. Downsides include a lack of power and no V6 offering. Legroom in the back is cramped and gas mileage can be disappointing in the city.

Gotta love the AWD. Love the gear ratios (Manual), and i love the torque. missing some more go in the higher RPM range but i can get used to that.. i love the interior room, especially at the back. It could use a turbo tho. the engine feels like its underpowered for the size of the car..

The best thing about this car is the AWD. Living in New England, it is a perfect vehicle for winter driving while having great gas mileage. I also love the steering radius. It's a great zippy car to get around town, but is also nice for traveling. The maintenance overhead is minimal, although if something does need repairing, the cost can be steeper than other vehicles. The '00- '04 generation looks and drives great. They are a solid car and I would highly recommend them.

everything is Perfect! unless Engine must be taken care really good, i'm changing OIL on every 5k KM, also you have to watch not to overheat turbines subaru really do not like it, and bad is if car is Stock in summer intercooler is not enough to cool air and engine goes little bit worse but its perfect in bad or rainy or showing conditions. LOVE THIS CAR BEST OF ALL SUBARU RULES! P.S. I want 2004 Imprezza WRX STI for next car :)
