For its final year of production, the Mazda MX-3 sports coupe was available only in a Base model, since the GS version, with its 130-horsepower V6 engine, was dropped from the lineup. The Base version of the MX-3 was powered by a 105-horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that was linked to a five-speed manual transmission, which was standard. A four-speed automatic was optional. Standard features for the MX-3 included power brakes, power steering, power exterior mirrors, dual airbags, a rear-window defroster, an AM/FM/cassette stereo system, and a hatchback rear opening with a fold-down rear seat. Options included air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, a sunroof, and anti-lock brakes. Many drivers bemoaned the fact that this was the final year for the MX-3, for they found it to be a fun, quick, sporty car with good handling. Some noted that the car had blind spots out the sides, however, and that replacement parts could be expensive.
