Overview

Chevrolet continued its popular "built like a truck" line of Astros. In 1993, it introduced electronic shift controls for its automatic transimission; a second-gear start feature for better traction on slippery roads; and greater horsepower (215) than previous models.
The 4.3-liter, 5-seat, 3-door 1993 Chevy Astro is very popular among its owners, according to many owner reviews. Fans say that it is "peppy," can haul anything, and roomy. Detractors say it is unreliable (yet fans call it reliable). Some reported problems with the sliding doors (harder to open over time); windshield wipers; brakes needing service often; peeling or chipping paint; and poor visibility (blind spots).

Best all around vehicle I've ever owned - hauls 8 pax plus gear comfortably, take out the bench seats and you've got a real cargo hauler with 4 feet between the wheel wells. Let me down only twice - water pump at 190000km and fuel pump at 200000km. Lots of torque for hauling the boat and with 5 speeds decent gas milage. Not a whole lot of fun to drive but what van or truck is? 245000km and still going strong.

so far it has performed great, with a quick response and very tight handling for a van. it needs a little work, mostly cosmetic, it does squeak when it hits bumps but that is just the back hatch from damage. it needs a windshield and rear bumper. the paint is slightly worn and could be redone but is holding up great, and the mileage is actually very good for a van. the interior is clean, even though it was a work van, it just needs all the seats put back in, and it is probably a blast to drive, i just don't know yet. my dad seemed to love it.

Not a bad van. Mine had the full Gladiator conversion package. Extended headroom, lay-down bench seat in the back, TV and VCR (later changed to a PS2), cruise control, amazing upholstery, fantastic interior lighting, the works. It drove like a huge, heavy van, of course, but it wasn't underpowered. Unfortunately I lost both side mirrors (to a mailbox and a pickup truck), the driver's side glass (to my brother), and the transmission (to a road trip). But until then, it was a great vehicle.
