In 1990 VW dropped the GLi variant which was replaced by the GTX. The mark 2 chassis and 16 valve 2.0 litre engine were complimented with BBS cross-spoked 15 inch rims and Recaro electric height adjustable racing seats. This variant was limited to two years in production.

I bought this car in Feb 1990 - YES, that's right, 1990. And now it's March 2010 and it's still in continuous use. What a work horse!!! It is still fun to drive, performs and handles well, heats up good and fast in the winter, but the 185/55 R15 81V tires aren't too good in snow, so I have an SUV for that. Calypso green still stands out and looks great.

I love my 1.8t I put in it! drilled breaks and all disks is a must, and with the coilovers it handle's well the only complaint I have is the one wheel peels, going to get a lsd diff soon

Very Fun Car, Rare and Expensive to keep up, parts hard to find. Car was a bit too High Performance for the VW Range when originally offered to public, only 5000 per Model Year Produced.
