Porsche introduced the Taycan in 2020 as the brand’s first fully electric vehicle. In terms of looks, it’s highly reminiscent of the big Panamera luxury sedan, and keeps pace with other Porsches in terms of performance. Competitors include the Lucid Air, the BMW i7, and, at the lower end, the Polestar 2.

What’s New for the 2025 Porsche Taycan

In its fifth year on the market, the Porsche Taycan gets a significant refresh, including subtle styling updates, new standard features, and improved performance—chiefly acceleration and efficiency. There’s also a new Turbo GT trim level at the top of the range, at more than double the Taycan’s base price. Though the Taycan is fully electric, its styling falls in line with the rest of the Porsche range, particularly the sleek and sophisticated Panamera. This year’s updates keep the Taycan competitive both within its own family and compared to newer rivals.

Design

The Taycan comes in two flavors: the base sedan and the hatchback-esque (or wagon-esque, if you prefer) Cross Turismo. Both feature typical Porsche cues of narrow headlights, long front overhang that tapers into a shark-like nose, and a low roofline that flows dramatically into a pert tail. The wheel options are, of course, decadent, with standard 19-inch designs that expertly fill the big wheel wells, while 20- and 21-inch designs are available. The lower stance of the Sport Turismo version makes the entire look and feel much more sporty.

Powertrain

For 2025, the Porsche Taycan gets a variety of performance updates. It’s quicker, it charging is faster, and it gets extended range, though not all of these benefits apply to all trims. With eight powertrain combinations on the menu, shopping for a Taycan can get confusing quickly. In base form, the Taycan features a single electric motor paired with an 89-kWh lithium-ion battery, rated for up to 402 horsepower and up to 302 pound-feet of torque. This version gets rear-wheel drive and is rated for up to 274 miles of range. The base Taycan can also be upgraded with a 93-kWh battery, which yields 429hp, 309 lb-ft, and up to 318 miles of range. From there, Taycan powertrains go dual-motor with all-wheel drive. At the very top end, the new Turbo GT model with two motors and a 105-kWh battery is rated for 777hp, though it can hit 1,019 in overboost mode. This version gets range of up to 276 miles.

Interior

The Taycan is posh yet modern, blending typical Porsche styling with some EV-appropriate touches, like a digital display housed behind curbed glass. Though there are some subtle updates for this year’s refresh, the cabin looks mostly the same, which is a smart choice on Porsche’s part. The Taycan is available with four or five seats, and standard features include leather-trimmed upholstery and heated front seats. Options include Porsche’s RaceTex synthetic leather upholstery or full genuine leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and massaging seats. The Taycan sedan has 14.3 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk, and another 3 cubic feet in the frunk. The Cross Turismo tops out at a 15.8-cubic-foot trunk. Note that some trims sacrifice cargo capacity to stereo components or other features.

Technology

The Porsche Taycan features a curved 16.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a 10-speaker audio system. Options include a second 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger with video streaming capability (and a filter that blocks the screen from the driver’s view), a rear-seat entertainment system, and a choice of Bose or Burmester surround-sound stereo systems.

Safety

The Taycan comes standard with a rearview camera, frontal collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, front and rear parking sensors, and traffic-sign recognition. It’s available with a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, remote parking, a night-vision camera system, and Porsche’s InnoDrive semi-automated, hands-on driving assist system. As is typical for luxury cars, particularly electric and performance-oriented models, the Porsche Taycan has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
