What’s New for the 2024 BMW X1

The X1 was completely redesigned for the 2023 model year. This third-generation X1 largely carries over for 2024, save for the addition of a new performance-oriented M35i xDrive model.

Design

The 2024 BMW X1 features clean lines and sharp angles, embodying the presence of its larger siblings, but in a subcompact format. The X1 xDrive28i features 18-inch wheels. Upgrading to the M35i adds 18-inch wheels and more aggressive styling.

Powertrain

The 2024 xDrive28i is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, allowing the xDrive28i to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds.

The upgraded M35i xDrive trim features a tuned version of the same turbo-four engine, boosting its output to 313 hp while maintaining the same 295 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain also utilizes a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, but it offers a quicker zero-to-60-mph time of just 5.2 seconds, providing a sportier and more dynamic driving experience.

In addition to its higher power output, the M35i features upgraded brakes and an adaptive M suspension system. All-wheel drive (AWD), which BMW calls "xDrive," is standard with both engines.

The xDrive28i gets EPA-rated fuel economy of 25 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. The M35i returns 23 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined in EPA testing. All X1 models require premium fuel.

The X1 comes equipped with synthetic leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and push-button start. In addition to the performance enhancements, the M35i adds sport front seats to provide better bolstering while navigating hard turns. The X1 offers 25.7 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 57.2 cubic feet with the second row folded, which is excellent for the class. A power liftgate is standard equipment.

Technology

Standard tech features for the 2024 X1 include a 10.7-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster. It also comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a seven-speaker audio system, and four USB ports. Wireless device charging, augmented reality navigation overlay, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system are also available.

These include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, front and rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
