2020 Dodge Journey Overview
For 2020, the midsize Dodge Journey benefits from moderate changes and a simplified lineup.
Both Journey trims, the SE Value and Crossroad, include seating for 7 passengers, keyless access and start, and a 4.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Premium cloth seating is standard, as is an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice commands, satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. Additional standard equipment includes a power driver’s seat, tri-zone climate control, navigation, a premium audio system, LED taillights, a security alarm, remote start, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel are all available.
Last year’s V6 option was shown the door for 2020, leaving just the 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. It develops 172 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque and partners with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, the disappearance of the V6 also removes the Journey’s all-wheel-drive (AWD) capability, so all models come exclusively with front-wheel drive (FWD). That said, fuel economy is the same as last year with the 4-cylinder: 19 mpg city, 25 highway, and 21 combined.
Safety-wise, every Journey comes with a full set of airbags and a reversing camera. But that’s where the technology ends: there’s no crash-avoidance technology, blind-spot monitoring, or adaptive cruise control. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) wasn’t exactly enamored with it either, awarding it poor marks for small overlap crash safety and headlights back in 2019.
The Dodge Journey represents a unique value proposition. But if you’re looking for a more current vehicle, we recommend waiting for a redesign.

Harry I thought Dodge was going to discontinue the Journey. That they’re only down to the Charger, Challenger, and Durango now.
nursecdillard As a 2016 SE Journey owner of now a 4cyl ... I like a V6 and a little more power and road grip. I previously drove a Hyundia for 14 years and I needed a bigger vehicle with trunk space. Do you research first as I did not. My Journey is good for local 5 mike round trip to work. The seats are firm and excellent for a stressed back; lots of driver leg room for a 35” inseam; telescoping is a great and a must for the need to adjust since seat is back. Never use the third row as a single person. I have only 18K miles on a 4 year vehicle. I will pay off and privately sell. I’m looking at a small nice truck like a used 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline as I bike and garden. Such vehicle is more versatile to my life style. Journey SE is great in a state with very mild to no snow and/or lots of snow. The V6 model should be baseline, larger monitor screen, garage opener (3rd seater usually means kids and groceries .... need garage opener for ease and security. All the extra storage is nice! I woul shape the front less like a station wagon..... not sporty enough. Add a little trim exterior ie model/make emblem and a splash of silver bling since silver trimming is nice on the interior. Overall the Journey is ok yet not well thought out for the new millennium.
Exponent9 Nurse, it sounds like you should have stuffed your ego and bought an actual minivan. The Journey is nothing more than a compromised van for the vainly ego-obsessed parents out there, who profess to love their children, yet go to pains to forget them as soon as able.
