Great Family Car — Good, roomy all around family car with good looks and handling. Large trunk but small opening. Fold down rear seats help for long items. I have low miles and didn't have any problems. Poor gas milage. Car should have more sound proofing.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Good, roomy all around car with good looks and handling

Cons: Road noise

Look Out, Germans: Here Come The Swedes! — This is our fifth Volvo, and it is by far our best yet. I mean we had the bullet-proof 850 GLT, so that's saying something. I love how this car looks, inside and out. It's a great example of contemporary Scandinavian design in all accounts. On the highway, it's unbeatable. The gas mileage, the comfort, the safety, et cetera. I'm a sports sedan person, so this car to me is underpowered and floaty, along with being touchy in regards to steering and brakes. But it is the best of what it is, a luxury executive sedan. I never feel uncomfortable in this car, and I never worry when I'm driving or when someone else has the car about safety. If I ever want to go on a long trip, this is the car to take. Kudos, Volvo!

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Comfort, Safety, Looks.

Cons: Handling and power.

Great Car. Volvo Got It All Right On This One. — Sweetest car I've owned yet, which includes 3 Mercedes (2 S-class, 1 E-class), a BMW, and 3 Acuras. Great features, AWD is unobtrusive, plenty of pickup w/ the turbo, great interior, and unmatched safety. Very solid, great sound system, fun to drive.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Safe, quiet, responsive, luxurious

Cons: could corner a little better

Volvo S80 - No "birdie Birdie Hurdie Gurdie" Here. —

Handling: Excellent when driving, although parking it is awkward. Build quality: It's too quiet. I can't hear if the engine's running or not, and it was a diesel! Exterior looks good. The front looks a bit better than the previous generation S80, but at the rear, only the tail lights remind you it's a Volvo. The rest of its arse looks like that of a ricer. Side view is the same elegant one as of earlier models. Interior reminds me of a Chesterfield saloon, with a Bang & Olufsen stereo. The seats are extremely comfy and electrically adjustable. Why go to IKEA for Swedish furniture, when you can go to your Volvo dealer's spare parts shop instead? "I'll take three driver seats and two rear seats for the S80, please. No, just put'em in the back of me Transit. It's for me house." Furthermore, the stereo has an aux input (unfortunately not iPod-specific, so use the headphone jack), and there's a diesel-powered cabin heater, for when you just missed the ferry boat at night, and the next one leaves in 1 hour and 59 minutes. Does cost a bob or two to rent (I got it for the price of a Golf, but don't tell anyone. Sssshhh…), but drank hardly any fuel. Remember to turn off the air conditioning when you don't need it, though. You'll quickly notice that it consumes a lot more fuel than the engine does. Fun to drive, yes. The automatic gearbox adapted to my driving gradually during eight hours of road trip. When I felt like it, I could manually override.

Pros: Comfy ride, tight handling, clings to Norwegian coastal roads like a condom put on right, and is very quiet…

Cons: …in fact too quiet - Where's the engine sound? Its size makes parking awkward. Air Conditioner consumes at least twice as much fuel as the engine (if not more).

Lauren says:
Pros: -I own this, it is an outstandingly impressive vehicle for the money and the mileage that I currently have on it (~125k). -It has been extremely low maintenance. -The 2009 s80 was IIHSs top pick for safety for the large luxury car line in 2009 and I can personally vouch for the safety myself. -Interior has a beautiful and thick mahogany tinted wood plating on the trim pieces -Heated seats come standard for this vehicle in the front and also for the back seats -Its a very smooth ride, suspension is not sport-tuned Cons: -Its an extremely heavy vehicle due to the safety of it (~3,900 lbs for 3.2 FWD), so it has some drag to it when youre accelerating -Resale value is gut-wrenching -Problems with the power-steering system is extremely common (leaks, pump going out, etc.) -Engine bay is very cramped so the parts get very hot; its not uncommon for washer fluid reservoir to melt/crack as a result, nothing else will have this issue under the hood
