The 2009 Ford Focus packs a lot of fun and agile handling into an essentially economy compact. Since last year's refresh, sales have skyrocketed 88% due to its affordability, interior space, and agile ride. A big complaint, its bland exterior looks, especially compared to the revamped Honda Civic, have been partially addressed for 2009. The coupe gets a sporty facelift, while the sedan waits in the wings.
Available in both sedan and coupe forms, the front-wheel-drive 2009 Ford Focus comes in three trim levels: Base S, SE, and sporty SES. For 2009 the coupe drops the S trim. One engine powers the entire lineup. The 2.0-liter DOHC inline four puts out 140 hp and 136 lb-ft of torque with the standard 5-speed manual or optional 4-speed automatic. The coupe's new sport-tuned exhaust adds 3 horsepower, for a total of 143 hp, but maintains the sedan's 24/35 mpg rating. A partial-emissions version of the 2.0 rates 130 hp. Engine noise at high speeds is noticeable, a common trait among four-cylinders.
The 2009 Focus coupe's redesign, partially inspired by customer feedback, concentrates on exterior updates. A new front fascia incorporates a larger, lower air intake, rounder bumper, integrated foglights (now standard on all trims), and darkened bronzed chrome, for a subtler, more elegant look. The top-of-the-line SES rides on larger 17-inch alloy wheels and adds a new roof spoiler. Also new for the 2009 Focus coupe is optional electronic stability control, for extra traction security. On all other trims, dual front-side and side curtain airbags are standard, with the option to add ABS brakes and traction control.
A roomy and comfortable front row, in addition to a 13.8-cubic-foot trunk, continues to earn high marks for the compact Focus. Rear seats split-fold 60/40 for extra cargo space, and front legroom reaches nearly 42 inches, while rear legroom is a spacious 36 inches. Despite the use of cheap plastic materials, the interior feels comfortable and well laid out. The Base S comes with few accessories beyond the CD/MP3 player, but the SE adds power features, remote entry, and a trip computer. The sportier SES features a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and the SYNC entertainment and communication interface. An interesting option is Ambient Lighting, which offers seven lighting choices for gauges and footwells.
Potentially due out in 2009, but only in Europe, the Ford Focus RS uses a five-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine to hit 296 hp, with 0-60 times under 6 seconds. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The performance-oriented RS concept, based on the defunct ST, is set to debut at the London Auto Show in mid-2008, but early pictures show off its extensive chrome trim, wide stance, engorged wheel wells, distinctive grille, and Recaro sport seats. Its future in the U.S. remains uncertain and, as of now, unlikely.

Good looking car with a sporty line and nice handling, sometimes i feel it has a little
bit lazy acceleration because its weight (1327 Kg), but stills a well built and reliable

Not a bad car. A bit plain jane but it is 2 litre, not the 1.6 so it goes ok.
Understeers too much which can be dangerous in the wet.

I have been driving my focus for 2 years now. It's a good reliable car to get around town in. It handled nicely and and felt link i was fully in control. The steering was a bit to firm for me though.Feb 21, 2012

Appearance: appearance is classy both exterior and interior
Performance: Acceleration is good even on the steep heel while driving on gear 5,
breaking is not really reliable when you hit a dead break, handling is brilliant

I like it . I would get buy again , Being a big guy , I fit well in it . I have had it fully load with 4 people and the trunk full . The little car still had tons of power! Would love to see 4 wheel disc brakes!

Performance is above average. I wish it had a bit more power. Maybe after I
install better exhaust, intake, and tweak the CPU a bit I'll definitely see a
difference in the power. Also once I lower and stiffen the suspension the overall
look of the car will be more aggressive...much like how I drive. Once the
performance chip is modified, the gas mileage should get even better. This is really

Performance:
Acceleration - Average for the compact class.
Braking - Good and even without ABS stops straight in panic situations.
Handling - Above average, very predictable and stable.
Build Quality:
Good, no squeaks or rattle. I did have to have the Audio Processor Interface
Module replaced but it was done for free under warranty.
Appearance:
Interior: Laid out reasonably well, materials are average quality. Styling (while
subjective) is restrained with very legible and intuitive radio and HVAC controls.
Exterior: Best viewed from a rear 3/4s view, the front end styling has been the
cause of controversy on the '08+ Foci.
Cost of ownership:
Very reasonable, the dealer I bought the car from has a tires for life deal so
I've only had to do oil changes and tire rotations...and I've already got a new
set of tires. As far as gas mileage is concerned the best I've ever got was
35.4mpg(mostly highway driving) with most tanks averaging 30mpg.
Fun factor:
This car is more fun than people give credit for, with it's IRS (unlike some direct
competitors that still use torsion beams) it's very tossable and stable, brakes

Overall good build. Phenomenally stable in turns. One of the best in it's class at handling. The acceleration leaves a bit to desire, but it's to be expected at 110bhp.
Overall, it can be a very fun car to drive.

Good acceleration, awsome gas milage (24-43mpg) numb suspension.
Had a nock from the 1/2 shaft, was recalled (15,500mi),
The flat bumpers collect dirt easly, and the roof line could be dropped about 3" to give a sportier look and less like a bubble.

I really like the performance; it has a manual transmission (thank God). Don't like the metallic paint job but all colors only come in metallic for this vehicle. Wish it had an oil pressure gauge and rear wheel disc brakes. It's a nice looking car otherwise.Aug 19, 2009

hid's + new exhaust<3 amazing on gas, pick up is really good, handles and stops very well. no problems with it yet. not expensive to fill up. very fun to drive. upgraded sound system is nice.
don't like that the windows aren't tinted yet and i don't have black and chrome 18's yet! plus need to install a new system.

Fun car too drive with a nice acceleration. Enough room for driver & passengers at the back as in the trunk. And with the aerodynamics kit of the econetic on the front & the special back skirt in grey (car is black) it makes the car even more beautiful.
