2009 Ford Edge Trims and Specs

The 2009 Ford Edge SE is the base trim for this model and one of only two trims under $30,000 ($26,130 MSRP). Some of the exterior features that stand out for this trim are a three-bar chrome grille, 17-inch painted-aluminum wheels, black door handles, power sideview mirrors, rocker moldings, a rear spoiler, and dual chrome exhaust tips. The interior features 60/40 split fold-flat rear seats with manually reclining seatbacks, cloth seat material, front bucket seats with manual lumbar support for the driver, an AM/FM/CD stereo with MP3 capability and an auxiliary audio input jack, and a remote keyless entry system with two integrated keyhead transmitter remotes.

The 2009 Ford Edge SEL is one step up from the base SE trim. The extra $3,000 (approximately) you'll have to spend will add, to the exterior, 18-inch painted aluminum wheels, automatic headlamps with wiper activation, body-color door handles, sideview mirror accents, foglamps with chrome bezels, and a SecuriCode keyless entry keypad. The interior upgrades for the Edge SEL feature a 6-CD changer and secondary steering-wheel-mounted controls and MP3 capability for the AM/FM stereo, a six-month subscription to SIRIUS Satellite Radio, a six-way power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, chrome accents on shifter stalk and registers, a unique selection of cloth seats, aluminum finish on the instrument panel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, message center, EasyFold rear seatback release, and a reverse sensing system.

The 2009 Ford Edge SEL AWD is the least expensive of the Edge’s AWD trims, coming in at $30,885 MSRP. The SEL AWD gets all the extras Ford delivers for the front-wheel-drive SEL trim – from foglamps with chrome bezels on the exterior to a six-way power driver's seat on the interior – plus Ford’s All-Wheel Drive system. Without any input from the driver, this AWD system predicts the loss of traction and sends the necessary torque to the proper wheels (front to rear or side to side) before slippage even occurs. The AWD trims are slightly less fuel efficient than the FWD trims, getting 15 city/22 highway mpg as opposed to 17/24.

The 2009 Ford Edge Limited is stocked with just the kind of features you’d expect from a vehicle with a Limited badge. In addition to all the amenities that come standard with the Edge SEL, the Limited’s interior features six-way power, heated, and leather-trimmed front bucket seats with driver's-seat memory and a fold-flat passenger seat; dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control with particulate air filter; a premium, 320-watt AM/FM stereo with an in-dash, 6-CD changer, secondary steering-wheel-mounted controls, MP3 capability, a clock, and nine speakers, including tweeters mounted in the A-pillars and an 8-inch subwoofer; Ford’s SYNC voice-activated, in-vehicle communications and entertainment system; brushed-aluminum finish on the center panel, metallic-faced gauges, and ambient lighting.

The Limited’s exterior is highlighted by 18-inch premium aluminum chrome-clad wheels, chrome beltline molding, heated sideview mirrors with security approach lamps and memory, brushed aluminum door-sill scuff plates, and body-color surround molding for the SecuriCode keyless entry pad.

Ford added the Sport trim to the top of its Edge lineup for 2009. As you might guess, the 2009 Ford Edge Sport has a sport-tuned suspension for what Ford claims is a “sports-sedan-like ride.” While the Sport is the most expensive of the Edge trims ($33,245), just ahead of the Limited, the Sport’s features do not add to the Limited’s features, but rather to the SEL's. Those additional exterior features include unique front and lower fascias, body-color door cladding and side-skirt rocker molding, a unique headlamp and taillamp blackout treatment, 3.5-inch bright exhaust tips, and 20-inch premium painted-aluminum wheels. The interior gets leather-trimmed seats with Alcantara suede inserts, contrast stitching on the leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, dark brushed finish on the center-stack panel, and Ford’s SYNC voice-activated, in-vehicle communications and entertainment system.

The 2009 Ford Edge Limited AWD receives all the luxurious amenities of the Limited – from a premium, nine-speaker audio system and heated, power leather-trimmed seats on the interior to 18-inch, chrome-clad wheels on the exterior – plus Ford’s All-Wheel Drive system. This AWD system predicts slippage before it occurs and automatically sends the appropriate amount of torque to the appropriate wheels with the help of Ford’s AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control system. Obviously the AWD makes life easier off-road, but it does detract slightly from gas mileage – the front-wheel-drive Edge trims get 17 city/24 highway mpg, while AWD trims get 15 city/22 highway.

If you're looking for the Edge trim with the best handling and performance – on-road or off – then the 2009 Ford Edge Sport AWD is your vehicle. In addition to a sports-tuned suspension unique to the Sport trims (and all the other features, including a stylish exterior package), the Sport AWD gets, of course, Ford’s All-Wheel Drive system. This system doesn’t react to slippage, but predicts it. So before your Edge Sport AWD even starts to slide or slip, the AWD system (with help from Ford’s AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control system) automatically senses it and sends the correct amount of torque to the correct tires (shifting it front to rear or side to side) for ideal traction. This will cost you a little at the pump, as the front-wheel-drive trims get 17 city/24 highway mpg, while AWD trims get 15/22.
