This is really a review of the R Class in general. I had an R500 and loved it. Plenty of power ( I cant imagine the R63), I love the styling and every person in it faces the front and has plenty of leg room no matter how tall the are. The remarkable amenities I like the most are the second row center council and the head rest mount DVD players. Black with black interior is my druthers. Overall, as I mention the 500 is great, but its gas and fule consumption is not as high as I would like it (Akin my 560SEL), the R350 is underpowered for my liking and the 350s had there share of mechanical problems. I really like the 1st edition headlight arrangement as opposed to the 2nd generation. I have no desire to screw around with the urea tank so that brings me to preferring the R320 CDI. It can probably pull an open single car trailer which would make a great combination to go to the car show getting the best fuel economy of the R selection and have the longevity of a diesel. So I actually vote very high for the R500 4 plus stars, 3 stars for the R350, 4 stars for the R350 blue tech and 5 stars for the R320 CDI . I understand why the fatherland did away with the body style, but I dont agree with them And once I select one of those I am looking at with likely have it for the rest of my life.

Most Elegant Family Car. — Performance- Slow but it's safe for family. Never get ticket(thank god!) roomy, 7 seating, not too high to enter. Cost of ownership - Gas is no good, M series was little better. Gas is same as Land Rover. Appearance - Big, Not sporty but elegant. Fun factor - Not speedy but good for long family trip.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Good for big kids famiy!

Cons: Slow start

A Very Useful Mercedes Product — This is a very beautiful family vehicle, a sensible alternative if you are too young for that mini van look or if really don't want that huge suv/truck thing going on. This is vehicle will give you the AWD you desire with the ride and comfort of a sedan. The legendary Mercedes Diesel engine gives plenty of power and excellent reliability mid range acceleration and very spirited highway performance. Though Mercedes has stopped selling the R class , it is worth owning if you want something classy safe and dont want to follow the cookie cutting truck SUV mini van crowd.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Rides like an S class  Mercedes, Durable  Diesel  engine, plenty of family  creature comforts, a  pleasure  on long road trips

Cons: High cost of ownership if you insist on  Mercedes  dealers service , air  suspension  models  are a costly repair. Skip the dealer and find a reputable independent Mercedes Service shop

Great Family Car. — We bought this used at a great price. It was much cheaper than mini vans with similar miles. So far, it has been very cheap to own. Only asks for service every 12,000 miles or so. Has car seat anchors in 4 seats and room for a 5th seat. Can fit 7 real sized adults in extreme comfort.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Very comfortable. Lots of room for kids.

Cons: Big doors open hard in parking lots.

Good Family Car For Family Of 5 Or 6. — Sleek looking and extremely comfortable ride, great for road trips. Build quality is excellent as with all Mercedes Benz. It looks much smaller due to the low roof line. The low entry makes it easy for kids to climb in and out of car. Feels extremely safe driving the car. The car has a very comfortable soft ride, so you do not feel every little road bump. It has a surprisingly good Harman Kardon speakers for such a large car, the car itself is pretty sound proof helps a lot.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Great space in 2nd row seats, 3rd row mainly for kids.  Adequate power for fully loaded car, no lag even with 4 adults and 5 kids in the car!  Comfortable touring car.

Cons: Small cargo space when fully loaded, best to install luggage box on roof.  The front passenger seat has a strange angle, impossible to sleep on a long journey.
