2008 Mazda 5 Body Work
I have a 2008 Mazda 5 with 61,000 miles on it. There is one area of rust in the wheel well. I got a quote of $1,500 to repair it. Is it worth it?

Write a reviewWhen Car and Driver recently picked a list of its top 10 urban vehicles, they included only one minivan: the Mazda5. It's small - only 23 inches longer than the Honda Fit - but has room for six people or 70.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the two back rows folded flat. It also has a base price equaling that of the MINI Cooper, another one of Car and Driver's top 10 urban-vehicle choices. And since it's based on the Mazda3 platform, this "mini" (as in minivan) is also a handler.
Debuting in 2004, the 2008 version brings a mild exterior and interior refreshing that includes the replacement of the outgoing four-speed automatic with a new five-speed automatic transmission; a five-speed manual is available only in the base model. The interior is duded up with electroluminescent gauges and other cabin features; the optional navigation system is also supposed to be more user friendly.
A 153-hp, 2.3-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing powers the Mazda5. Except when fully loaded, reviewers found the engine to have enough pep. But with six passengers aboard with all their equipment, passing and on-ramp maneuvers had to be planned carefully. The EPA estimates mileage at 22/28 with the manual transmission and 21/27 with the automatic. Consumer Guide Automotive reviewers saw 21.8-22 mpg with the automatic on regular-grade fuel.
Reviewers commended the Mazda5's road manners, attributing the minivan's sporty, "razor-sharp" handling to its Mazda3 chassis DNA. Traffic maneuvers and parking are a breeze, another reason for its "top urban vehicle" pick. Its good grip, modest body lean, fine road feel, and "petite" 34.8-foot turning-circle radius further impressed reviewers.
The cabin is spacious and laid out to permit interaction among the passengers of this "space wagon," as one reviewer described it. The second row features captain's chairs that have lots of adjustability and reclining functions to maximize legroom in the third row. Yet, as seems typical, third-row space is best suited for children. Mazda researched the arm, leg, and body movements of people getting in and out of the van to best determine the interior dimensions and seating positions. The sliding rear doors - a first for this class - that self-close on level ground provide excellent entry to the second row and permit entry and exit in tight parking spots. Mazda is also credited with excellent interior fit, finish, and attention to noise reduction through the use of various sound-deadening technologies.
The Mazda5 comes with ABS disk brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, front side airbags, three-row side curtain airbags, and a tire pressure monitoring system, but stability control is not available. The Mazda5 has earned buyer recommendations from a number of reviewers who consider it a top choice for small urban families.

I went to go see this vehicle in person. Upon test drive the check engine light was on, the temperature gauge never moved from cold when driving. The tire pressure light gauge was on, and the left rear passenger window didn’t roll down. It also looks like there has been damage to the front bummer. But when he looked it up it says no accidents. When talking to the guy about pricing he added almost 2,000 dollars more for taxes, tag and all the paperwork. I would not recommend this vehicle unless you are looking to pay a high price and then paying to fix all the issues with it.Jun 05, 2021

The 2008 Mazda Mazda5 has turned out to be a great family vehicle for us. It has flexibility with its cargo space. It seats four comfortably and six when it's pressed into duty for people transport. Add to it a 5-speed manual transmission, low maintenance costs and good fuel economy, and we've been quite pleased with it.May 05, 2015

Interior room is pretty good. Its a minivan that drives like a car. Easy to

Performance but needs to be revved above 3500rpm.Now after approx 40000Km the engine seems to have freed up and revs cleanly and just moves the car in a Zoom Zoom fashion!
5sp Auto gearbox is keen to change to 5th gear very fast. Irritating if you are in a hurry.
Great Handling. Pivots on the seat of your pants.
The twin auto doors, wipers and lights are a constant source of amusement for my friends and kids.
Great 6 CD in dash changer.great sound reproduction.

The vehicles performance is quite peppy for a 2.3L engine. It's the heart of Mazda's Zoom Zoom! Quality has been good...the only problems have been a piece of moulding coming loose on the left passenger window, and the back window shattered. The styling of the vehicle is very smart and sporty for a Multi Use Vehicle. Gas mileage is great...at about 625km a tank. It's a Mazda...of course it's fun to drive!!! Jan 11, 2010

I have only had my Mazda 5 for 6 days. I am not sure about
the gas mileage because I have not taken it on a long trip.
The one irritating thing I have noticed is some degree of road
noise. I cannot figure out where it is coming from. I suspect
it is coming from the rear tires. Maybe they need balancing
or maybe it is the type of tire. Not sure. But will take it in to
the dealer and have it checked out. Other than that I like the
car a lot and will be curious to see the actual gas mileage in
city and highway.

The car gets great mileage for one with a third row. It accelerates and brakes well, but the engine is noisy. Too much of the body is made of plastic. But I think it is a good car for a family that is interested in low cost and good gas mileage.May 24, 2009

My car suits my lifestyle, 7 seater MPV. I have three kids, a husband, 2 dogs, a mother a mother in law and a grandmother in law. We need the car space, what can I say! She runs well is'nt noisy at all.
The only thing I hate and Mazda havent been able to fix, is the radio goes crackly at totally random occassions, so it's ipod and Cd's most of the way!
She's affordable to run and accellerates well for a fully loaded 1800 engine. She certainly beats the zafira I owned.Apr 27, 2009

Pretty quick, fairly comfortable for the 'above average' sized driver, but loads of cupholders...11 of em! Seats 7 when we need to, and has a good sized boot when we don't.
Good fuel economy at around 30mpg ( good considering the way I drive! ) and it looks a bit different. Much more comfortable than the Zafira I tried, and better equipped.Aug 26, 2008

It does everything I want and gets better mileage than poor old Moby Van got. It also is brand new and has 21st century technology in it so I feel like I am caught up with the time in which I live. It does onyl have a 4cylinder engine, but it does the job and I am happy with that.
