So Mazda's not breaking any rules with its sporty 2008 MAZDA3 sedan and hatchback, which come tuned with a slightly stiffer suspension and a choice of two different DOHC inline-four engines in a range of eight trims.
The front-wheel drive 2008 MAZDA3 rates highly with owners and critics for precise handling and a more aggressive engine when compared to similar models, such as the new Honda Civic. Sedans come in two different i models, including Sport and Touring and feature a 2.0-liter, 148-horsepower inline four with variable valve timing and choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The s lineup includes sedans and hatchbacks and adds a Grand Touring trim (with leather seats, a trip computer, and automatic headlights). The s line is powered by a 2.3-liter, 156-hp inline four and choice of 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic. These trims ride on larger 15-inch wheels and add a body-colored grille, cruise control, power features, and leather accents to the standard features. An optional Sport Package comes standard on the s Touring and the hatchbacks, adding 17-inch wheels, foglights, and side sills.
The 2008 MAZDA3 doesn't rank as high as its competitors in safety. The base i trims feature dual front airbags and 4-wheel disc brakes, and ABS brakes are standard only in the s cars, with the option to add traction and stability control. New for 2008 are standard side impact and side curtain airbags for the s models. The 2008 MAZDA3 seats four comfortably, with 11 cubic feet of trunk room in the sedan and 17 cubic feet in the hatch. With the rear seats folded down in the hatch, capacity expands to 44 cubic feet. Owners relish the fun driving experience provided by the relatively affordable MAZDA3. Complaints mention the noticeable road noise, cheaply-made sun visors, and lack of a remote trunk opening function.

After about a year of owning the car I can say that I am happy with my purchase. The car looks great, drives like a top level car, and is filled with options. The car struggles a bit with heavy winter driving, but that was remedied partially with the addition of Blizzak winter tires. This car turns heads and is a riot to drive around any corner above speed.Mar 23, 2015

This car has been to most reliable car I have ever owned! I had so many more corky issue with my Accord but this car since has had no issue other than wear items that need replaced. This is also a great car for hauling, traveling (especially with pets), and actually doesn't handle terrible in the snow. Loved the look and it was very comfortable. Suprisingly felt bigger than it actually was. The gas mileage wasn't as great as other smaller cars, but the tradeoff was the great ride and handling. Mazda ZOOM ZOOM for sure. Maintenance was low and when needed was very cost effective (always took to Mazda dealer).
Great acceleration and braking. Felt very safe and in control at all times. Very fun to drive and was sad to see it go.Feb 27, 2014

I LOVE HER TO DEATH
The whole car is very soul driven, this is not an ordinary
car, you buy this car because you love this car. Shifting
the gears is such a soothing feeling. Racing away from
the lights gets your heart pounding. Flying around on back roads is very settling, this car corners exceptionally.
The interior is great, especially when you put the time in to
keep it clean, and the exterior looks great from all angles.
I sometimes just stop and admire her beauty for a couple
minutes. Even when you red line her and push top speed
around on highways, i still can get 28 to 20 mpg, great

The performance is good for the class of the car,
the gas mileage is great, I really like the styling of
the car, it's got a good look to it. It's a little bit
expensive for what's in it. This car is so much fun
to drive, it's worth it. The interior is very well done.
The seats are comfortable,It's roomy enough for

This is my current car and I love this one too. The performance of the car is pretty decent, it has a decent acceleration, has amazing breaking, rated first in its class, and the handling is very good as well. The build quality is very good. Its quiet, loud when i want it to be, and overall pretty cool. Only repair needed was the power steering pump system which was a standard repair for 2008. The appearance of the car is awesome. Its real sporty looking, and the interior of the car is also remarkable. The gas mileage is better than my Tacoma, but not remarkable better. All maintenance is covered by warranty. The Mazda 3 s Sport Hatchback is a good first car. It is not too fast but handles very well. Also plenty of room and with the seats folded down it really can hold almost anything you would need to transport. Although it does lack in speed the semi-automatic gearbox still gives it a fast feeling without actually needing to speed. Jul 14, 2009

I bought my Mazda3 in July of 2008 after I had
rented one when my previous car was in the shop.
I immediately loved it. When one drives this car
you get the sense of driving a race car while
maintaining the funtionality and comfort of a 4-
door sedan. I opted for the hatchback because this
seems to increase this sport feel and look even
more for me. The car is very well built in all areas.
since this car is a 4-cylinder great gas mileage is
assumed and maintenance is low but cost of
ownership really depends on how you drive the car.
My only complaint is about the stock tires. These
are Goodyear Eagle RS-A's and are great tires is you
area a fast aggressive driver, but poor for the rest
of the world. I'm coming up to 13,000 miles and
am already down to 7/32" and will have to replace
them before I get to 15,000 miles. Other than that
I am still completely blown away from this car. The
inside lights up beautifully at night and on the
outside you have HID headlights and LED taillights.
this car is by far the best choice in its class. Oh and
if you decide to buy it check out the Costco Auto
program.

It's sporty and quick around the corners, plus there's plenty of room for people and their gear, apparently handles pretty good in the snow (with snow tires), the 2.3L engine is powerful enough to have fun but also gets pretty good mileage. when regularly serviced, I have seen some '05 cars upward of 200K. the interior materials are of good quality and are easy to reach without looking down. Being 6'6" it's easy to say that ,as long as I can drive the car with room to spare, many people will find it to be a spacious vehicle.Dec 19, 2008

Ive owned the car for a year now. Every time I look at it, turn the key, and stomp on the pedal it makes me as happy as it did the day I drove it off of the lot. It has physical and power appeal. Overall a very nice car. Gas mileage is excellent as long as you don't nail the gas. 0-60 is around 8 seconds, though I think it may be a little less if you shift manually. Interior is very nice, and the back seats fold down which is great for skis. Radio tuner is terrible though, but the speakers are decent.

I absolutely love it, has good acceleration, 2.0 liter 148 hp, fuel efficent with 32 miles per gallon. Got the Value Edition with some extras, looks well built has some nice features such as volume controls on the steering wheel, ABS / EBD, Side Air bags is nice. The Mazda3 5-door is what I have and it has great performance for the size. There's a 2.3L 156hp I-4 with a 5sp tranny. I have the Sportshift automatic, which is an automatic with a manual mode. It's really fun to play around in manual mode, especially when driving on a road that has several curves and straights. There are 17in alloy wheels, auto xenon headlights and auto wipers. There are square foglights, LED taillights, and side repeater lights. The hatch opens high and wide for easy loading of cargo and has an integrated cargo management system with a cover as well. There is a trip computer which gives you MPG info. There are steering wheel controls for the audio and cruise control. There is an auxiliary input for MP3 players and 6 speakers. There is a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, heated perforated leather seats, and door bottle holders, as well as a CAVERNOUS glovebox. Overall, it's a great car and I love it!Apr 05, 2008

I’m replacing my transmission control module on my 2008 Mazda 3. Part #L34T-18-89E1E. I was told by the Mazda dealership I’m ordering the part from, it doesn’t need to be programmed, and I’ve also seen multiple DIY videos where they state it doesn’t need to be programmed as well.
