This performance wagon gets a sportier grille and a lot more chrome accents, which, along with its standard rear spoiler, hint at its Charger platform and the 5.7-liter, 340-hp Hemi V8 under the hood. The engine offers displacement on demand, which deactivates cylinders when not in use, and is matched to a 5-speed shiftable automatic. This drivetrain delivers 390 lb-ft of torque and a 3,800-lb towing capacity.
The 2008 Magnum R/T rear-wheel-drive crossover rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. Four-wheel disc and ABS brakes, traction and stability control, dual front airbags, a tire-pressure monitor, foglights, and halogen lamps are all standard, as with the SXT, and the R/T adds automatic headlights and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Xenon lamps and daytime running lights are optional. A special Performance Package adds larger 20-inch wheels with performance tires, a sport suspension, suede upholstery, and special R/T badging.
For all its hot-rod pretensions, the 2008 Magnum R/T is also a family wagon, and it doesn't skimp on equipment. It adds a 6-way power passenger seat to the 8-way driver's seat found in the SXT, as well as leather seats and trim. Other features include a full power setup, cruise control, a CD/MP3 player with extra iPod hookup, satellite radio, heated mirrors, remote entry, intermittent front wipers and fixed rear wiper, dual-zone climate control, a security system, and a tachometer.
Front and rear legroom exceeds 40 inches for both rows, with the back row elevated for better passenger visibility. Cupholders, power outlets, and storage consoles on the floor, overhead, and in the back-row armrest are spread throughout. Tie-downs and a hard cover are standard in the cargo area, which holds up to 72 cubic feet, with additional cargo space on the optional roof rack. Other options for the 2008 Magnum R/T include a sunroof, wheel-mounted audio controls, a 6-CD changer, DVD player with remote and wireless headphones, satellite TV, a navigation system, and a sunroof.
