Little-changed from last year, the 2008 Audi S6 5.2 Quattro shows off its 435-hp, 5.2-liter, 40-valve DOHC V10 with extra badging, a chrome grille, trunk spoiler, rocker panels, quad exhaust pipes, two sets of five LED daytime running lights, and 19-inch alloy wheels with performance tires. The engine is matched to a 6-speed Tiptronic transmission. The quattro all-wheel drive comes with a multi-link front and rear sport suspension and a limited-slip center differential. Along with traction and stability control, 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for all rows, the 2008 S6 also offers xenon headlamps, automatic headlights, a tire monitor, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, foglights, folding mirrors, and a first aid kit. It gets the highest marks for a mid-size sedan from the Insurance Institute. Side impact airbags for the back row and adapative cruise control can be added.
Front passengers get over 40 inches of legroom and body-hugging sport seats. Leather upholstery, heated front seats, 8-way power front seats with memory settings, wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls for the 6-CD player, satellite radio, an iPod hookup, remote entry, and full power features are standard features. Also included are intermittent wipers, a trip computer, temperature and compass display, heated mirrors, Bluetooth, and a sunroof. Rear seats split-fold to open onto the 16-cubic-foot trunk, which features tie-downs and a cargo net. Wood and alloy accents adorn the interior. Options include voice-activated navigation, a solar-powered cooling fan in the sunroof, heated rear seats, and leather and carbon fiber trim. Also available is a lane-departure warning system, which vibrates the wheel when it senses the car drifting. Although roomy and powerful, the 2008 S6 5.2 Quattro lacks a manual transmission and only gets 14/19 mpg city/highway.
