The Corolla CE is the entry level model for Toyota's immensely popular compact sedan. This base trim comes with 15 inch wheels, power mirrors, a CD player, air conditioning, and an outside temperature gauge. ABS, power windows and locks, and cruise control are optional.
The CE is powered by a 1.8 liter inline four cylinder engine, which generates 126 horsepower and 122 pound-feet of torque. The small power plant is enhanced by Toyota's Variable valve Timing + intelligence system. VVT-i helps draw more power from the engine, while increasing fuel efficiency and lowering emissions. The Corolla has an EPA rating of 30/38 mpg. It is available in either automatic or manual transmissions.
The enduring Corolla and trendy Matrix are two distinct vehicles, but they are both built from the same platform. Both offer a very high roof line for their size, adding to passenger headroom. The Corolla showcases the same interior build quality found in more upscale Toyota models, but is priced to compete with cars like the Honda Civic and Mazada 3 in the ever-expending compact sedan market. A important caveat for Corolla buyers is a very poor side impact safety rating. Side curtain airbags will improve this, but they are optional on all Corolla models.

The Corolla is carried over from the previous model year, but an updated version is expected to arrive in late 2007. There are three Corolla trims offered, and each is available with both manual and automatic transmissions. The LE is categorized as the most upscale model, but it is comparable in price to the sporty Corolla S series. Opting for the LE adds Optitron gauges, keyless entry, power windows and locks, and a faux wood trim. Options like an upgraded sound system, cruise control, and a sunroof are available on this trim.
The Corolla LE is powered by a 1.8 liter DOHC inline four cylinder engine, mated here to a four speed automatic transmission. The small engine is supported by Toyota's Variable Valve Timing + intelligence system, which helps draw out a bit of additional engine power. The 2550 pound sedan is supplied with 126 horsepower and 122 pound-feet of torque.
Price and fuel economy have historically been the Corolla's most desirable features. A fully loaded Corolla offers Toyota reliability and build quality in the same price bracket as the Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Hyundai Elantra, and Nissan Sentra. Toyota's VVT-i technology complements the low curb weight and small engine, to produce exceptional 30/38 mpg fuel economy.

The only news regarding the 2007 Corolla is the discontinuation of the popular XRS trim. The Corolla S remains as the only sport-oriented version of Toyota's popular compact sedan sedan. The S is the mid-level option with respect to price, but it is not really less extensive than the top shelf Corolla LE.
The S style Corollas are differentiated by a lower stance thanks to a special body kit. The S also includes fog lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a rear spoiler. Air conditioning, a CD audio system, and power mirrors are standard on all models. S upgrades include the Enhanced Power Package, which adds power window and locks, keyless entry, and cruise control. A moon roof, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control, and 16 inch wheels are all available individually.
The sport-focused appearance of the S may be deceiving. The attractive compact sedan is powered by the same 1.8 liter inline four as all other Corolla models. Consequently, it is supplied with just 126 horsepower and 122 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration is sluggish off the line, but pickup a higher speeds is adequate. This model includes the optional 4-speed automatic transmission, but the base 5-speed manual is said to enhance the overall driving experience. Fuel economy for all Corolla models is estimated at 30/38 mpg.
