coolant temp
Hello i have a 2007 Pontiac g5 and i have noticed that my coolant temp is getting above 200 degrees about 5 minutes after starting it . what is the normal temperature ? is this something to be worried about?

Pontiac quietly introduced the 2007 G5 as its lowest-priced car, hoping to entice first-time buyers into the Pontiac fold. The compact two-door coupe is almost identical to the Chevy Cobalt, aside from a rear spoiler and Pontiac grille, and actually looks sportier than it really is. Base models carry an Ecotec 2.2-liter, 4-cylinder DOHC 148-hp engine, while the flashier GT is powered by an Ecotec 2.4, 4-cylinder, 173-hp engine. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, with a 4-speed auto option. There are plenty of standard features, including air conditioning, center console, remote entry, Driver Information center, and front airbags. The GT gets a sports suspension, ABS brakes and fog lights, as well as cruise control, a cargo net, and XM radio. Optional packages add on a sunroof, leather trim, audio controls on the steering wheel, and heated leather seats. GM seems out of ideas with the 2007 G5, as it so closely mirrors the marginally successful Cobalt. Owners and reviewers agree there is nothing unique about the G5 to set it apart, including its price offering. The backseat is cramped, but that's what you'd expect in a coupe. There are also complaints about the quality of the interior materials and parts. On the plus side, owners says it handles well and is fun to drive, with an energetic engine. The dash is laid out well and easy to use, standard features in the GT are appreciated, and the gas mileage, at 25/34 mpg, is an added surprise.

Bought new at a very reasonable price, maintenance cost were minimal, regular oil changes brakes a new set of tires @ 21,000 miles was really all she needed in 8 years. Great overall driver for my wife. Wonderful little economical commuter. Apr 12, 2015

I loved the whole car. Great gas mileage, sporty looking, great handling, great stereo system, loved the sunroof. Just a fun car all around! The cons were just the back seat, it was a little small if you were wanting to go on long trips with more than two people. The backseat is perfect for smaller kids, because they don't need a whole lot of leg room/head room.

I love the g5, its a nice looking car. It has good accelaration and more power then it looks like it has. Car has really good gas miliage. The car is sporty looking for a 4 door and is fun to drive with a 5 speed manual.Jul 13, 2012

i liked about it was that there wasnt something i couldnt fit in the car i snowboard i fit 3 boards in the car it did great with gas so i cant complain and being it was my first car and being 17 not having a whole ton of money it helped to not break my bank on gas Jun 20, 2012

The pontiac g5 is the basic model of the cobalt but to me is much more sylish then the cobalt.with a little money and some upgrades will definitly be a great performance car and lighter then the cobalt.it may be cheaper to just buy the ss cobalt for performance but it takes all the fun out of bringing the base to a supercharged status. Performance- good..better if faster.
Build-Coupe is nice.
Appereance- better if my dad hadn't hit a raccoon in it.... uuuggg.
Cost- Coulda got it cheaper... gas mileage is great.

first of all... i LOVE my car. it looks so amazing! but thats about it...:( its got a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder so it sucks when im challenged to a race:( it only spins the tires when the roads r wet lol. but because of the 4 cylinder, it gets 39 mpg on the interstate! only about 26 around town. its got an aftermarket system in it that sounds amazing! the mirror fell off once though.... but yeah i like to show it off in the lot but not on the streets lol.Jul 05, 2010

Performance is terrific. Fun to drive
Build Quality - sucks - had to replace the clutch at 50k... and
GM's response... "not our problem". Other stupidity and fit
issues.
GM experience 0 out of 10. bad, bad lease experience, right

It's over-all amazing. So much sleeker than the Cobalt, and for the same price as an LS, you get LT options. The 5-speed is nice, as long as you haven't abused it, because then you start having problems. And, it's not as common, so it's not the same car as everyone else has rolling around.Oct 09, 2009

Amazing looks compared to base model.
Decent acceleration.
35 miles per gallon usually.
Low maintenance.
Few problems.

I like how the car handles, and it has nice pick-up for a 4 cyclinder. The only thing I
don't like is the space, because there virtually is none. The car is very fun to drive,
and it is a pretty overall cheap car. Gas milage is like 23mpg, or something close to

Over all this car is really fun to drive because it is a stick shift. The performance is awesome; it has great gas millage too. I love the way this car looks. I got the "blue streak metallic" color- sometimes it has a purpleish color then sometimes it looks dark blue.Jul 14, 2009

The G5 has amazing quality. It has many great interior freatures. The preformance is up to par with the competetion. The G5 has very low ownership costs. This is an exceptionally fun car to drive. I would reccomend this car to anyone.Mar 23, 2009

This is my 2007 Pontiac G5 SE. I love this car, it has great handling and runs really smooth. Its a 5- speed 2.2L. Very sexy car, it has a pioneer stereo and a sub in the trunk (came with the car i didnt put it there) I bought it from Jim Gilbert's Wheel and Deals, i highly recommend this company if you are looking for a new car.Jan 18, 2009

the car is a great economy car getting almost 35 to the gallon, but it comes at a price. i bought the base version wich has the soft-ride suspension which is very comfortable but also very sluggish. the steering could use some tweeking and it lacks a little power. but thanks to an intake a gain a good bit of power back. the styling of the body is beautiful, but the base model sits to high. all in all a good car for 14K.Nov 11, 2008

Bonne perfomance pour un char de base (148 HP)
Suspension molle mais pour le reste c'est bien correct! Gadjets interessants et intérieur suffisamment grand pour 4 adultes. Parfait comme premier char, pas cher et économique (6,1L/100km autoroute) pour la grosseur du moteur (2,2L).

Like: Interior, am/fm/cd/mp3, pwr windows/door, cruise, 4dr, blue(or as the boyfriend says - blurple. lol), mileage is great for highway driving, alright for the city, styling is great both interior/exterior.
Dislike: putting back seats down - have to go through trunk.

Sporty little compact Pontiac coupe. Very aggressive handling, steering, and acceleration. The GT trim is fully loaded with black leather seats, leather steering wheel, steering wheel controls, and power sunroof. 17 inch rims with Pirelli PZero tires for ultimate grip under hard acceleration and braking. 18 monts and +50 k's later...... like the car lots.
It's just a 4 cylinder engine, but that's what makes it economical. Drives nice and did not have any technical problems with it to this point. Do not like the stock seats in it, they feel uncomfortable.
Would like to dress it up a little bit, just for fun.
Reliable, economical and still a a bit sporty looking.

I basically chose this car for its appearance and was pleasantly surprised when great handling, enough pep, and good gas milage came with it. My G5 is averaged to get 24 city mpg and 32 highway mpg but they can actually get more or less depending on driving conditions and driver. Mine, which is pretty new (only about 2,000-3,000 miles on her), gets over 30 and of course will get better once she's broken in more. It has a 2.2 Liter L4 engine and goes up to 140 mph though I've only taken it to 110 mph (it handled great by the way). It also has satelite radio, a jack for your ipod, remote keyless entry and starter, tach, and a nifty info thing on its dash which tells you; miles, trip miles, oil life, coolant temp, average speed, mpg, and other things like possibilities of ice on the road.
