the 525 engine is the most reliable engine you can get for a BMW. But of course, it’s a BMW. You’ve got to find a car with preferably around 100k so all the problems arise and you know exactly what you need to fix or what has been fixed or your instantly regret the purchase. Great car if the previous owners kept it well maintained

id compare the 5 sieres to the 3 sieres but, between the two i would choose the 3 sieres, i find the 3 sieres to be more relieble and its just a little bit more expensive than the 5 series but its well worth it. but over all the 5 sieres does get slept on it can be a really good car if you have the time and the money

Unlike Any Other, Powerful And Classy — I loved this car, from the moment I saw all of the technology, Blue tooth, Navigation, Heads up display. This one was loaded. It drove amazing, a little big for city driving, but the parking sensors made it easy to fit into tight spots. The best car for the highway, but needed to watch my speed constantly, as it was so comfortable.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: NAVIGATION SYSTEM EASY TO USE, VERY RELIABLE

Cons: HEADRESTS COULD NOT ADJUST TO MY HEIGHT, WOULD NOT TILT FORWARD

Awesome Ride! — I love the performance and asthetics of this car. It has a good body style range, meaning from years 2004-2009 there wasn't much change, and it gave enough of an updated look that it stayed relevant in the mid 2010's.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Steering and handling like no other. Plenty of pedal when you need the power to pass.

Cons: After 100,000 miles there are things that will need attention, and usually these things will require you bring out your pocketbook

Competent, Solid, And...not Terribly Interesting Or Exciting — The 2006 BMW 530xi is a very good car. No question - a very competent comfortable all-weather-capable large sedan. But I was expecting more than that. Why? My previous 5-series, a 2000 528i wagon felt stronger and lighter than it actually was, handled very well for a large wagon, and felt like a BMW should. My 530xi runs well, rides well, accelerates well, brakes well, steers well, feels comfortable and luxurious, gets through any New England weather, accommodates 5 people and all their stuff easily, and feels incredibly solid. It's just not nearly as fun as the previous generation 5-series. I know the design is a bit controversial, but I happen to like it.) Just like every other BMW I've owned, not much breaks. But when it does, it's probably going to be more expensive than most Japanese or American car. In over 3 years, I've had a grand total of 1 unexpected repair cost (other than post-warranty oil changes, etc.) Of course, it was a fairly substantial $800. However, if all this is what you are looking for, then you certainly won't be disappointed.

Pros: Competent, solid all-around sedan; reasonably quick with decent power, good brakes and steering; outstanding all-weather capability with snow tires; good ride quality and long-trip comfort

Cons: Feels larger and heavier than it is, not much sporting pretension, controversial design, doesn't seem to want to play the same way my previous-generation 5-series did
