How many miles can you put on a 05 4runner?
I am looking to buy an 05 4runner with 106K miles on it. I was curious what is the life span is for an 05 with 106K on it. will i be able to add another 100K with maintaining maintenance?

The 2005 Toyota 4Runner continues the success of the 2003 and 2004 models. The base engine remains a 4.0-liter V6 rated at 245 horsepower and 283 lb/ft torque. The V8 received a slight upgrade in power, increasing it 235 horsepower and 325 lb/ft of torque to 270 horsepower and 330 lb/ft. The V6 gets 18/21 (4x2) or 17/20 (4x4) city/highway fuel efficiency, while the tow-intended V8 gets 16/20.
Drivers of this SUV really seem to love it. They cite a quiet yet powerful engine, and off-road capabilities not truly found in SUV's as bonuses. Complaining about the fuel efficiency has quieted, as Toyota works to make its engines more and more efficient, reaching nearly 21 mpg on the highway.

Bought a 19 yo 2005 SR5 v6 4Runner w/140,000 mi. Drives almost like new but 800 mi later have Christmas tree dash lights and a problem with shifting into and out of 5th gear. Search on web shows these probs are relatively common. Still not sure if 4Runner web love is just hype or not…Sep 22, 2024

The car was in an accident; not reported. The front bumper was broken, the dashboard was cracked as well as the roof. The moonroof was broken, the windshield had a crack in it. No, the car was not a good value and overpriced. The advertisement was misleading in my opinion. Dec 04, 2022

Honestly, does not get the best gas mileage. But I am not interested in that so much as value, durability, reliability, and practicality. It gets a rating of 10 in those areas. May 15, 2020

I would recommend the '05 Toyota 4Runner Limited to anyone. I took very good care of this vehicle and it never gave me any problems. I hated to sell it but I decided to buy a newer one and I did not need 3 since I still have my '88 4Runner. I know it will serve it's new owners well if they take care of it.Feb 26, 2014

I enjoy the space my 4runner provides. It has a lot of power and is very comfortable. I hate the gas miliage. I have also had lots of problems with the brakes on my 4runner. If you don't mind the horrible gas.miliage its a good ride.Oct 19, 2013

This 4Runner is in excellent condition. The engine is strong and powerful, the transmission shifts well and the power features work perfectly. More so, this SUV is well equipped with AM/FM stereo, CD player, ice cold a/c, power windows, power rear hatch window, power locks, power mirrors, cruise control, and much more! Wow! I love love love my 4runner and hate to get rid of it. She has been very reliable and safe for my children and I. I can no longer afford the gas millage it gives me though. Terrible anti-slip traction control and stability warning far to touchy. If the traction control system even thought the car might slipspin a tire it would take over and ALL control of the gas pedal was GONE! This nearly caused me to be in a number of accidents while entering traffic from a stop sign and other areas. I could get stuck in front of my own house on level ground with 1" of snow on the ground (with new traction tires on the car)! Terrible System!!! I took this to the Toyota dealer many times and spent over four thousand dollars in their attempts to make it right and ultimately told me that everything was working at manufacturers specs. I will sell this and never buy another! (That is after driving Toyota's for 30 years).Jan 07, 2012

Dislike emissions system, esp O2 and Air/Fuel Ratio sensors. Mine went to dealer 5 times before, I, figured out what diagnostics could not. When those sensors go bad it disables vehicle stability control, skid control, and suspension cannot work properly. Both CATS replaced under warranty at $1800 each, problematic in 4.0L 4Runners. The V8 is much more fun, had in my 2003 4Runner and mpg too close to notice!Dec 02, 2011

This is 4Runner number 3 for me, so that should tell you I love them. I am so happy she is mine free and clear. Her name is Kaimera, which means Ice Ship or Protector, she is definitely the second. 4Runners are built for safety, I know first hand after a $15800 accident I walked away from w/o a scratch. She was not totaled, but fixed. The emissions on this 4Runner is troublesome! Was to dealer 5 times for unknown problem, I had to find other owners online to see the O2 sensors and Air/Fuel Ratio Sensors act up you lose Vehicle Stability Control, Skid control, and big loss of power and mpg!
3/10/2015 Kai is about to hit 195k miles. Everything has been pretty simple to keep up except for brakes and exhaust. Even Toyota service representative recommended using an aftermarket caliper as Toyota Calipers lock and fail early. I fixed the catalytic convertor problems by putting Magnaflow cats on. Gives her a bit more of a rumble. I also put an open air intake and made the hood scoop functional. Yes it is actually a real hood scoop if you take out the insert which blocks the scoop opening. What a nice growl she has and the motor runs a little cooler with air actually coming in hood scoop. I know other 4Runner owners probably wonder whats under her hood. HID headlights make a huge difference at night, so you SHOULD get them for your 4Runner. I bought mine on ebay for $35 and dealer installed for $100, no problems with lights and I have had them in for over 5 years!Aug 11, 2011

Lack a bit on the Breaking. seems like the brake are not good enough for the cars power.
Great and stylish look. Very low cost of ownership. No need to go into details about the quality associated with a TOYOTA.

in itself. You can't go wrong if you're considering buying one.

I tell everyone that i know that they should be buying a 4Runner. best vehicle that i have ever owned. just towed my 800 lb. suzuki M109R from DC to VT and had no power problems but has mileage took a dive. went from around 20 mpg to 15 just by hooking up the trailer. Aug 11, 2008

The exterior looks great. Ride quality is smooth on paved roads for an SUV with a rear live
axle. Handling is great with the XREAS and not top heavy for its height. The V8 is fast and
has plenty of torque to pull anything. The interior design is alright with the black marble
trim and leather. The 4Runner is packed with features like dual zone auto climate control,
power everything, auto headlights, heated seats, adjustable ride height, and navigation
system. The seats are low to the ground, but I find them comfortable. Headroom can be a
little more generous, but it doesn't prevent me from loving this truck! I definitely would
recommend the 4Runner to anybody.
