2005 Hyundai Tucson GL 2WDReview

Very Comfortable Small Family Suv — We have had this vehicle since new and we would definitely purchase again. I was in an accident and was almost glad it happened because I realized how well this vehicle protected me. Ended up with a $7500 repair bill for the front end. I didn't have to pay...accident was not my fault! The accident happened when the vehicle was only 2 years old. Repairs were excellent as we have had no issues at all. Love the ride, visibility, handling and overall comfort and space. It feels like a "cushy" car. Definitely not for you if you want a sportier ride. We purchased this vehicle because the back seats fold down flat with the rear storage area and there is no carpet in the cargo area. We would definitely purchase the 6 cyl though, as not much difference in the fuel economy and this is a heavy vehicle for 4 cylinders. We should have researched that before we bought and not assumed better fuel economy. We have, however, traveled through the Rockies towing a 12ft tin boat with all our camping gear in it! No power, but sure and steady. Yes, we researched the towing specs thoroughly. Acceleration is reasonable on the flat. There aren't many negatives, the biggest one being the very wimpy air conditioning system. In our vehicle, the air conditioning will just stop working after about 15 minutes or so. If you turn it off completely for at least 10 minutes it will start working again. It also belches dry ice type smoke from the vents frequently. It has had this problem since brand new (definitely not caused by the accident) has been flushed twice, checked out numerous times (at least 5 since it was new) but service dept. says there is nothing wrong with it....what can you do??? Good thing we don't live in a climate the requires air conditioning or I would have left it in service and refused to pick it up until they figured it out!! A couple of minor negatives, I don't find some of the controls intuitive and the factory wiper blades were garbage. We replaced with high quality blades. Maintenance and repairs have been average, no big surprises at all. Overall extremely happy with this vehicle! Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: Visibility, safety, cargo capacity, reliable, looks Cons: air conditioning system, power, fuel economy, factory windshield wipers ![]() Looking for a Used Tucson in your area?CarGurus has 36,027 nationwide Tucson listings starting at $1,950. |

It's A Good Car For Its Class, But I Wish I Had A Sedan. — The car handles pretty well, does not rattle or squeak, need any repairs, and looks cute but it does cost a lot to own due to gas mileage and insuring a 4x4. It is a fun car to drive though! Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: I like how much stuff I can fit in my car Cons: I don't like how much gas it uses, or how much it costs to insure (4x4) |

Worth It. — This car definitely has been worth the money. The only repairs it has ever needed were very minor things. The ventilation system however is very difficult to get into and clean. Gas mileage could definitely be improved. Would love to see a hybrid model. After 163,000 miles it shows no decrease in power or any signs of stopping any time soon. This car has done great on the highway and on bumpy, backroads. Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: I love the reliability, at 163,000 and still going strong! Cons: I wish it got better gas mileage. |

Great Car For A Great Price — I've had many compliments from other people and I have loved driving this car everyday since I've owned it. I wouldn't pay more for a small SUV. This one has it all and then some. The trunk space is unbelieveable. I am able to haul large furniture items with no problem with the fold down seats. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: 4 Cylinder - low gas cost and great gas mileage Cons: None |

Does Everything I Need It To Do. — It's very zippy. I like getting 26+ or - a couple MPG. Can tow my Waverunner to the lake with the A/C going and not bog down. Have had no problems with it. Just add gas and change the oil. Only things i have chnged or added was the stereo, added the hitch, and replaced the air filter with a K&N. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Cost friendly to operate Cons: limited cargo area |

Very Reliable — this car is very reliable because it is not too big, but it has power. It's got a nice interior, but it could be better. Its very fun to drive. I like that is manual and Automatic. The gas mileage is ok. Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: Fun, Powerful Cons: Fair Gas mileage |

Hyundai Tucson Cdx — Acceleration is a joke but handles OK. Built to last and very comfortable, although dashboard is a bit cheap and plastic. Looks smart, particularly from the back. Cheap to run for a 4X4, although services aren't that cheap. Engine is bomb-proof. A good all-rounder and excellent for a young family with plenty of luggage space. Pros: Looks and reliability Cons: Performance and dashboard |

Just The Right Size For Me, Rides Really Smooth — I really like my Tuscon. It's a good size and has enough room in the front and rear for my long legs. I would highly recommend this vehicle. Owner for 2 years, 10 months Miles Driven per Year:8,000 Pros: Plenty of interior room in the front and back seats Cons: Not too good on gas |

Reliable, Smooth, Quiet But Thirsty — Good car, but could use more torque low down in the revs and uses a bit too much fuel for the performance Pros: Build quality, believe it or not from a hyundai, and smoothness Cons: Fuel economy, low down torque |
