Aside from new side assist steps, enhanced stereo system, and optional touchscreen navigation system, the Chevy Suburban didn't change much for 2005. This extended SUV has 13 trims and has 5.3 L and 6.0 L V8 powertrains. All trims have 4 doors and seat 9.
Maximum towing capacity ranges anywhere from 8-12000 lbs. depending on the trim. Cargo capacity comes out to a roomy 132 cubic feet. Finally, the Chevy Suburban gives you your choice of 4WD or RWD drivetrain configurations.
Overall, the Suburban gets props for its roomy interior and capable powertrain choices. On the other hand, the lengthy body makes it tough to navigate tight areas and the build materials could use some improvement. If you've got a small sports team or sizable group to transport to and fro, the 2005 Chevy Suburban does the job just as well as any other domestic SUV.

Love this vehicle for running kids around to ball games and music activities. Great family vehicle and comfortable for long road trips. Plenty of cargo room and DVD player keeps kiddos entertained for a long time. Kids can get in and out of the suburban easily and no climbing over seats to get to the back seat.May 22, 2014

Bought it with 200k and still going strong at 250k. Love the comfort and entertainment system for kiddos. Wife is more confident in snow with this truck than with our Forester. Replaced front axle joint due to cracked boot cover and had my mechanic clean the pcv system due to smoke on start up. Otherwise no problems.
Update: Last winter, oil pressure warning was going off when starting in very cold temps. Had o ring replaced on oil pump pick up tube. That did the trick and engine valve train is much quieter now.Nov 20, 2013

Getting a lot of use out of it. Bought it used in 2009. Have put 120,000 miles on it. Three family trips to Florida, twice to Missouri, pulled a camper to Indiana. Lots of going to work and running kids around. Oct 09, 2013

Years ago I owned a mini-van, what the guys from Car Talk called the "wussification of the American male." Never again! Then came along the Suburban. Thank you Chevy! This is a marvelous vehicle in appearance and performance. The options are many and serve to compliment the basic vehicle. While expensive in some respects, this vehicle is very much worth the extra dollars you will spend. This is a heavy duty work horse that does not forsake comfort.Oct 22, 2010

Great for hauling the family, boat as well as family AND boat! Also works great for those trips to Home Depot. Sucks down gas like a thirsty dog, though. But still cheaper travel than buying 6 airline tickets! Heated seats are great here in the Chicago winter as well...Jan 23, 2009

Best Full Size SUV available!
Great well built American truck, It's a 2005 Chevy Suburban, just awsome, a great truck, smooth ride, great towing capacity, 2 wheel drive but it's still good, about 55k miles! Although it doesn't get the best mileage if you go easy on the 5.3 liter vortec V8 you can save some gas

Electrical issue plz help
I have a 2005 Chevy suburban 4wd. It has 155,000 miles. It now has what I believe to a short or something. My check engine light,abs,brake, traction control, and security light are illuminated. The doors will not lock the windows sometimes work and the transmission is shifting late. Also the speedo sits at zero the other gauges still working so far

Should brake fluid be changed on an old truck?
Took my 2005 suburban for an oil change and they suggested I change the brake fluid because it is dirty. I just had the brake pads changed by another mechanic so I decided to ask the brake mechanic what he thought. He told me that good mechanics never change brake fluid on an old system because “that’s when things start going wrong.” He said they will only top it off. He told me the oil change mechanic were only trying to sell me something and didn’t know anything. I do see his point, but I also find it hard to believe I am never supposed to change my brake fluid because my truck is old.
