Volvo's new entry level S80 comes equipped with most of the equipment found on the 2.9, which it will replace midway through 2004. Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, an interior air filter, cruise control, an 8-way power driver seat with memory settings, heated power mirrors, keyless entry, a trip computer, a universal garage-door opener and an anti-theft system. The 2.5T rides on 16-inch tires with alloy wheels. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but leather is optional-packaged with a power passenger seat and a sunroof.

The 2.9 comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, power front seats, a driver seat memory function, heated power mirrors, keyless entry, a power sunroof, a trip computer, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage door opener and an anti-theft system.
Volvo would phase out the 2.9 trim in 2004, with the arrival of the new 2.5T. The T6 models inherit the 2.9 liter inline six, and add a turbocharger.

The T6 is only available with a four-speed automatic transmission, but a manual shift feature is included. The T6 adds several amenities beyond those found in the 2.5T, including leather upholstery, a power passenger seat, a power sunroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and the On-Call Plus assistance system. This style is also differentiated by fog lamps, 17-inch wheels and an anti-skid system.
