2004 Mercury Monterey 4 Dr STD Passenger VanReview

Excellent All Purpose Vehicle For Families And Hobbiest — 4.2 L V6 gave good fuel economy (always around 20 mpg combined) vs a pickup, great for carrying loads of kids, then pulling a boat trailer to the lake. Very durable and inexpensive to operate over first 100 K miles of service. Only needed new brakes, tires and a minor engine service repair. Needed one tuneup at 83 K miles. Amazing. Only complaint was that it was a bit loud on the highway at speed. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.) Pros: Very flexible vehicle; adapts to family uses, trailer pulling, moving van service, jobsite hauler. interior quiet and pleasant for a larger, open vehicle. Engine durability excellent. Cons: Middle seats a bit heavy and not easy to remove |

Decent, Practical Vehicle — This was a nice van. It had a pretty powerful 4.2L V6 that didn't get the greatest fuel economy. My favorite thing about this van was that I could haul lumber in it. The interior was very versatile, the seats folded flat into the floor. I could haul sheets of plywood in it. It was nice looking on the outside; it was black with lots of tasteful little silver accents. The inside was ghastly and had some sort of cheap faux-carbon fiber dash accents and terrible gray cloth seats. The cup holders were in a really awkward place under the center console and there was a compartment on the top of the dash that you couldn't open without blocking most of the windshield. Overall, it was a good vehicle and I miss it. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.) Pros: Interior versatility, exterior appearance. Cons: Driver ergonomics. |
