2003 Saturn L-SeriesReview

I really liked the car but there were 2 issues why I didnt purchase. One minor one, which I would overlook is some minor water in the trunk which appears to be due to a gasket around the rear window/trunk. However the cars check engine light was on so without a further diagnostic on this I cannot spend the money to purchase the car. I did take it for a test drive and it handled well, it was inspected in May 2020 but I dont know what the issue is with the check engine light. We did tighten the gas cap, as sometimes its something as simple as that. I hope somebody can have a diagnostic check done as the car has low mileage and aside from a few cosmetic issues seems to be a nice car. My current Saturn is a 2001 and has over 220,000 miles on it so these cars can last a really long time which is why I am looking for another Saturn! Good luck this seems to be a good car with a lot of nice features, it didnt have any bad smells (no smoking or anything to indicate it sat a long time, etc) and was a little bigger and sits higher than my SC2. The trunk space was huge! ![]() Looking for a Used L-Series in your area?CarGurus has 75 nationwide L-Series listings starting at $1,999. |

Very Dependable — I absolutely love this car. I've had it for about 4 years and it has been very dependable. I've had minor work done such as brakes and getting the A/C fixed and it's held up very well. It's an amazing car. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: will always get you where you need to go Cons: i've always thought that the front of this car appeared very long |

Great Buy For The Money — I like this car because it is very dependable. No trouble what so ever other than getting a new battery, break pads, and the belt changed. It has ease of movement and is very comfortable and good on gas mileage Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Dependable Cons: The interior has a nice cheap appearance |

Good Appliance Vehicle, Easy To Live With! — This is a fantastic appliance vehicle. It gets very good gas mileage for a midsize. I have seen up to a 34 mpg tank average on long trips (San Antonio and back on one tank, A/C off). The only repair it has needed was a new A/C compressor because the electric clutch burned out and was not separately replaceable. The compressor swap took about an hour, and was incredibly easy. Although I have not done much in the way of repairs, all maintenance tasks were pretty trivial and everything appears to be laid out in an easily accessible way. Utility is decent, although the cargo space is not as ample as my former Roadmaster (which this car replaced), it is still sufficient for all of the hauling tasks I've had to date, and the roof rack is there for plywood or mattresses. It is comfortable, and while not powerful, it is sufficiently quick to keep up with Texas traffic or cruise at 75 comfortably. Steering is light, and the chassis's responsiveness feels more like a compact than a mid-size. This particular model also has a decent set of features that I wouldn't expect on a true economy car. Cruise control, auto-headlights, traction control, side curtain airbags, keyless entry + alarm, power locks and windows. It's no luxury car, but I've long since learned that luxury does not equal reliability or ease of repair. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Easy and cheap repairs / maintenance, efficient, comfortable Cons: poor driving dynamics, but not necessary on this car. |

There's No Reason Not To Love This Car. — I've never seen a 4-door sedan that somehow magically gets larger on the inside--I've taken four friends to a movie and no one complained about discomfort. The acceleration could only be topped by a sports car, because this little bugger can easily hit 60 in a matter of seconds. The mileage is about 31 highway--awesome. This car has never needed serious repairs and has only taken cosmetic damage; the only part I've ever replaced was the transmission fluid pipe. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Quick, good-looking, agreeable, easy to park Cons: None |

Saturn L-200 The Perfect Sedan — I bought my L-200 brand new on Aug of 03 so it's been almost 5 years. It still drives and looks like day 1. I haven't had any major issues with it and I would difinitely recomend it to anyone looking for a fine handling family sedan. This vehicle's platform is based on the European Opel Vectra and the Saab 9 series. The engine is a 2.2 Ecotec producing 135 hp with 147 lbs of flat torque. If you apreciate the handling of a Euopean vehicle but don't want to pay the price this could end up beeing your next car. Pros: Handling, looks, interior room, dent resistant panels, sound system Cons: Doesn't have a sunroof. |
