While it didn't change drastically in 2003, the Yukon XL did make some noteworthy improvements. GMC added Quadrasteer for improved steering and higher towing capacity. In addition, the Yukon XL got upgraded mirrors, multi-zone climate control, re-done control consoles, and optional DVD system and XM radio.
This full-size SUV has 4 doors and seats 8-9 depending on which of the 13 trims you choose. Think of the SLT as more luxurious than the SLE with standard features that include leather seats. The Yukon XL lets you choose from 5.3 L or 6.0 L V8 powertrains that give you 285, 295, 315, or 325 hp. Towing capacity generally ranges from 8000 to 9000 lbs., although the strongest trims can tow up to 12000 lbs.
Most drivers agree that the XL excels in powertrain selection and interior room. In addition, they appreciate the improvements for the new model year. While critics say the '03 Yukon XL could use better materials, most reviewers like what this domestic SUV offers in modern features and power.

Room is great, handling is even better. On trips put a DVD in for the kids and hit the road. Very comfortable even on the longest trips. We did about a 4,000 mile trip and have no complaints. Love it.Feb 05, 2014

Well 2003 still driving, 177,500 miles should tell you this is a well made vehicle. Has held up well, very little rust, problems. Leather Interior has held up extremely well!!! I still love this truck..just now starting to have to put some money into it...Feb 16, 2013

I can fit 3 big boys, one huge dog and even my husband in the car and we are all comfortable! It has been a great car for years, 113k miles, and never let us down. Has all the things to make 12hour drives to see family comfortable. Gas millage is the Mar 03, 2011

We loved this Yukon. We made about 3 or 4 memorable family trips in this suv. It took Josh and family to hockey games and tournaments. It was a great car for long distance travel with family. But it crap out at 134,000 miles after I babied it for 6 years. I changed the oil regularly. I fixed all problems quickly (fuel sensors with out, air condition fouled up, tune up at regular intervals) but the final straw was the engine started knocking in January 2009 and needed new engine. BUMMER!!!! ;-( I wanted to keep this vehicle for a long long time. Sep 16, 2009

2003 GMC Yukon Won't Start
Left key in truck overnight in the on position. Charged the battery. No lights on the dashboard and the engine made no sound. My s put his battery (same kind) in my truck. It started right up. His truck did not start when we put my battery in his truck. I purchased a new battery. My truck started on the first try. I went back a couple of hours later and it would not start. Lights on the dash came on until I tried to start the engine. It did not start and all dashboard lights went out. My truck was running well until this happened. Do you have any suggestions on what to check next?
