Both cars look Great to me but after owing several Mercedes I bought a BMW and much more fum to drive. The ride is rougher but the conviences are as nice or better. Better mileage and 3 times quicker on all levels. I have a convertible M3 with the Hardtop option. This replaces my white 560SL and a Black 1995 320E convertible with no regrets.
    Back Seats Ranked 1988 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class worse.
    "It is real."
    Would Buy Ranked 1988 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class worse.

Perfect size and power for a daily driven sports car. Gets by just fine in all season provided that you have the appropriate tires. Engine makes the best sound and pulls all the way to the redline.
    Looks/Style Ranked 1999 BMW M3 worse.
"Looks like a new car, much less dated in appearance."
Front Seats Ranked 1999 BMW M3 better.
"More ergonomic for a tall driver. Also they are configure for a good driving position. Though if you opt for the manual seats they can be tricky to set up until you get used to the controls."

Awesome vehicle. Tight handling, sweet motor, lots of everyday livability. A little fragile.
Cargo Capacity Ranked 2003 Porsche 911 worse.
"It has a real trunk. No such thing in a 911!"
Value Ranked 2003 Porsche 911 worse.
"Less money to buy, less money to own and maintain."

Really Fun And Amazing Drive. — Enjoyable to drive, just maintenance costs are high. Gets compliments everywhere I go, really quick. A very nice car nonetheless, very respectfully and known in the BMW Community, fits passengers in the back just fine. If you buy one make sure you get ALL maintenance records on hand and verified.

    Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Fun to drive, handling is amazing, looks are nice.

Cons: Maintenance costs. VANOS Replacement, very prone to fail.

Great Car — If you're looking of a car to drive everyday and of to the track on weekends with, you have to get a BMW M3. There is nothing that can come close to offering this kind of practicality and fun for the price.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

    Pros: Practical and Fast

Cons: Not really a winter car

Smg Blast To Drive — I loved this car! Only problem, I felt it was a bit underpowered. Car had tons of torque and the Drivelogic system allowed this car to be a daily driver. The car handled very well, and it wasn't much of a looker but it definitely made you feel younger.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Car handled amazingly...the SMG transmission and the drivelogic system worked awesome.

Cons: I guess I'm spoiled...I felt car was slightly underpowered...nothing to negative about this car...

Definitely Get The Coupe, They Handle Better. There Are Actually More Convertibles Than Coupes — Fun to drive, quite fast and handles greatly!! Couldnt ask for a better (E46) M3! When I purchased it, I was unaware of the fact that the Oxford Green Metallic and the Cinnimon interior were a rare color combination for the series! Not that I mind this added bonus!!! :D

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Fast & Fun what else do you need!!?!!?

Cons: the worry I might scrape my big wheels on curbs.... :(

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

    Pros: Excitement

    Cons: None

Great Looks, Great Power, Great Fun, Great Car, Not As Great Price. — THE ultimate driving machine, perfect balance of power, handling, styling, and most importantly fun. Great build quality, higher cost of ownership than most cars, but is is basically a factory tuned, street legal race car so that's to be expected.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Pure driving enjoyment, nothing better for the price.

    Cons: high cost of ownership
