Great car, lots of pros with little cons, fun to drive and great on gas mileage. Easy to handle and quick to accelerate. I love how it fits into any car stall anywhere. As the age of the car goes, the engine becomes more performing, fuel efficient and very reliant. Braking, handling and cornering is excellent. Feel very safe. despite being the RWD, this car is very stable and offer high standard traction in the snow. Less maintenance (Once in every 10000 miles). Once driven this series car, we will be addicted to this and will generate a dislike for all 4 cylinder engine cars. This car is so satisfactory that I am not able to find another replacement for this series car.Apr 29, 2015

I dont really like the small engine and its no good for winter snow in chicago. Its great in the summer and on gas.

Good power, handles great! No complaints. Has been very reliable for 8 years so far! No repairs was needed except for normal wear like brakes and tires. Did all the scheduled maintenance at the dealership. Not too expensive to maintain.Apr 20, 2013

Fit and finish of this car is remarkable, very well done. Driveline is capable and smooth. Not a lot of "extras" here, just a solid family commuter. Trouble free and reliable. Decent 24 MPG average from premium gas. Great value.Mar 29, 2013

The Mercedes is hard to find a substitute for...Just a very reliable vehicle you would absolutely love. The maintenance can be high, but, you don't have to take it as regularly as you would a less expensive vehicle. You can keep them forever!May 31, 2012

performanc is great for a 4 door sedan i love the car there is allot of tuning option i wanted a a nice quick car 800 dollars get you in the 400+ bhp without affecting comfort. I personaly have take this car to 177mph with no problem there are a few things that like that went out like the intercooler pump at 100k miles and the intercooler itself. those were pricy but beside that i love tihis car i have the rear folding seat and it helps allot when i have to pick up some things from home depot for the house i considered bying a trunck to haul litle stuff around but the i think about it i can do pretty much anything with my C32 amg 145000 miltes driven on this car and counting. This is a letter Jason Dilday sent to Ernst Lieb on behalf of his wife Donna. The totaled Mercedes still sits in their garage waiting for someone to take some responsibility. The letter reads as follows:
Mr. Lieb,
We purchased a New 2003 Mercedes Benz C240 on July 24, 2003, with 35 miles on it, from James Motor Company at 2440 Richmond Road Lexington, Kentucky. It was my wife’s personal vehicle, had everything on it and was always dealer maintained.
On July 28, 2009 we were in what should have been a minor car accident. We were on Main Street, in the middle of town around lunch time. I was taking my wife to the doctor, when we pulled off from a stop light and had gone about a 1½ blocks. We had gotten up to between 5 and 15 mph, when the car in front of us slammed on their brakes. My wife saw a car recklessly pull out from a side parking lot and fishtail out in front of the vehicle in front of us, causing them to slam on their brakes. However, I couldn’t see what happened, but as soon as I saw their brake lights, I slammed on mine. Unfortunately we ran into the back of their vehicle.
Upon impact, her head cracked the windshield, her side hit the center console, her knee hit the dash and her back hit the door. Her seat belt didn’t cinch, nor did the air bags deploy causing her to be tossed like a rag doll. She saw smoke from the crash and panicked. Given the time, people were right there, called 911 and stayed until help arrived to take us to the hospital.
Her car was totaled. Her Neurological functions have been diminishing since the accident. She is unable to accomplish most normal daily tasks without assistance. Simple tasks are no longer simple. Her Neurological Evaluation performed on February 3, 2010, proved what we already knew; her neurological skills were diminishing. She will have to be retested in 9 months to determine the full extent of her injuries. This has been the worst 9 months of our life. In her words, “My life is slipping away right in front of me and I can’t do anything about it.”
My wife and I worked and budgeted to purchase the new vehicle and it only had 20,600 miles on it at the time of the accident. When we purchased the car, we thought it would be a sound investment due to the advertised safety record of Mercedes Benz. We thought we were getting a tremendous value compared to other manufacturers; however, all of that was instantly erased when the accident occurred and life as we knew it was shattered and changed forever.
You pride yourself on being a safe manufacturer, but a fender bender which occurs at a speed of approximately 5 to 15 mph, and the car is totaled, not to mention the so called “Safety Features” failed miserably. How can you possibly continue to excessively advertise your approach to safety boarders on obsessive?
Could it be the issue which caused the recall of the 2004 C240 seat belts can be found in the 2003 model?
I don’t understand how this could happen and I don’t think many others will either.

I average 30,000 miles per year and close to 30 miles per gallon. It's still a fun car to drive after now having 200,000 miles on it. Repair costs have been acceptable. It has a lot of the features from the more expensive models which is a real plus.Dec 04, 2009

After driving my C240 for more than 70,000 miles it still handles like a new car, with a solid ride and excellent handling and cornering. The only problem was the catalytic converter failure at 60,000, which was covered under the federal warranty. It was replaced by the dealer and shortly after the other one failed (ditto warranty coverage). More than 30 mpg on the interstate, in the low to mid 20s in town. Styling conservative with no squeaks or rattles. A good, solid, reliable car that exhudes luxury to the extent I want or need.

Better performance, still standard model. good acceleration, braking and handling. Build Quality is good.
Appearance is fine, leather interior, silver exterior. Costs a lot more than Ka, and is a diesel.

loving the unique-ness of modding it. Performance is ok, though the car is a little heavier than other brands, the interior build quality is amazing, very comfortable. Best part probably is the sun/moon roof. Downside is that, all the euro cars are expensive on maintenance.May 29, 2009

Fast and comfortable, but the handling suffers. The biggest issue I have with it is the persistent electrical problems. I bought it at a time that I thought I needed a "grown up" car, but still wanted the performance. Now I miss my '93 RX-7. The quality is unmistakable and it performs like a dream. Repairs can be a little more expensive, but I haven't had to have many repairs. Despite most models eventhough the 230 takes high octane it gets around 30mpg. Changing the oil and gerneral inpspection every 10k miles it conveniant opposed to every 3k miles stadard with most cars. For being the lowest end model MB makes its 1.8L superchardged 4 cyclinder its pretty quick, and has excellent handling. Overall I am pleased with the cars looks and features.

I bought mine used in 2007 with 29k miles on it. I haven't regretted my purchase at all. Compared to the 2006 BMW 325i my brother has, the handling on the road is much more grippier and has an excellent stock sports suspension. The supercharger really makes a difference, and the fuel economy is great. I only wish I had a model with a glass roof. The only downside of this car is the limited modding capabilities. You can only do so much with the 1.8L supercharged '03. If you want to spend some extra bucks to mod your car and you're interested in purchasing a used C230, go for the '02 model or just dish out a couple thousand more for the C320. Otherwise, this is excellent for the budget sports car enthusiast who is not interested in modding.Jan 16, 2008

I leased this vehicle new in 2003 and gladly turned it back in 2006. I've since found out that those first turn of the century vehicles were plagued with low quality components, the result of Mercedes failing to police its parts providers more closely. If everything was going well, this was an awesome car. It felt much larger and stable on the road than its size would imply. But if you did anything out of just driving it on a flat perfect road, you'd end up paying for something. I live in Los Angeles, and like most large cities, the roads suck. Pot holes and the like are unavoidable. I bent two rims and blew out 5 tires over the 3 years I had it. I also rubbed to close to the curb once, which caused the entire rear right arm to bend, rendering the vehicle undriveable. Cost to fix: $3,200. The traction control computer short circuited once (fortunately covered under the warranty). Maybe the roads in Europe are better, but this car was way to delicate for real life driving in L.A. Its my understanding that the new C classes have corrected these failings.Jan 01, 2008

What causes ignition key to keep starter engaged and not let it release and start engine?
Have replaced starter thinking that was the problem. Car typically starts right up. Has 50K very pampered miles. Problem is when turning key the old and now new starter stay engaged turning the engine not allowing it to run. Turning key off wait a second try again and normally it will start as it would always. Once in a while it stays engaged again but after that typically starts right up. My wife is afraid to drive now that it is being fussy. Any ideas?

Hello I have a Mercedes C 240 2003, and just recently I notice in the reservoir the water containing oil, greenish in color and the car sounds different when am moving. At a point I was trying to go drop the car off it suddenly turned it's elf off and won't start until. I waited for a while then tried before it started. Could someone please help here
