A revised grille was the only notable change to the Chrysler 300M in 2002. A second trim called the Special was added, in an effort to provide a 300 geared more towards performance. The 300M had replaced the New Yorker, and Chrysler had initially crafted it as more of a sports sedan. However, the sport-tuned suspension was softened in 2000, and the image of the 300 was changed. The Special was introduced to fill the void. The 300M's engine was a powerful 3.5 liter V-6, which generated 253 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. The full size sedan could reach 60 mph off the line in 7.8 seconds, and turn the quarter mile in about 16. While the four-speed automatic included the AutoStick manual shifter, many drivers expressed a longing for a genuine 5-speed to complement power and handling, and to potentially improve upon the 19/27 mpg fuel efficiency. It never came. The 300M provided very nimble handing for such a large car, and front wheel drive provided some additional stability in slick conditions. Owners were pleased with the amount of interior and trunk space created by the cab-forward layout. The Xenon headlights were also praised for the considerable improvements in nighttime visibility. I have owned four (4) 2001-2003 Chrysler 300ms - all have been good for 150k plus miles, so of course Im always looking for another one (my current daily driver 01 has 182k miles) to add to my fleet. They are very well equipped, drive and handle nicely, and get good fuel economy. Make sure to change the timing belt/water pump every 7 years/100k miles, and you should be able to go 200k miles easily!Jan 04, 2022

I love that I only have to lift the hood for routine scheduled maintenances. This car is so reliable, I drive it to and from work everyday. I feel safe in it! It really does drive good, the gas mileage is about 22-23mpg. the 3.5 V6 really gives it a lot of power. Id rather have this then a V8.I recommend this car to a lot of people because I know its durability. My mom bought one and she loves it!Apr 21, 2015

Great looking luxury sports sedan. Performance suspension feels great. The exhaust sounds mean. Very comfortable ride. Hardly had any issues with the vehicle - nothing major. The Special model has good acceleration, braking and over all control. Would recommend to anyone.Oct 05, 2013

I have maintainence records, it runs beautifully, the interior is clean with one small tear in the rear passenger door handle.. Drives almost like a sportcar. A lot of space inside. Very confortable. Big trunk. Full optional. Everything electric inside and you can control most of the commands from the steering wheel. The V 6 engine got the enough power to handle sprints in traffic.May 18, 2011

I ordered this car new. They told me it was the first one off the line. Handles like a dream. Runs like a champ. 109k miles now. Had trouble with the A/C. Replaced all but the compressor.18" logo wheels, dual exhaust, carbon fiber dash/trim, 4 disc changer, stainless kick plates, blinkers in side mirrors, HID lamps - all standard. Average MPG is 22.5. .

I just sold this car to a friend. 141k miles. $3,000. No rust, no scratches, no dings. He was thrilled to get it. I traded down to a 2000 Mercedes S500 with 108k miles.

The dual exhaust rocks! it is fast, way faster than that wagon I used to drive! It needs front struts currently, but they aren't that bad to drive, I love the interior waterfall seats and the carbon fiber and on the exterior the xenon headlights rock at night and the ground effects are sweet! It is a sharp car. It performs great! Even though it has leather, I love it! I enjoy driving this car. This is the 2nd Chrysler 300M we have owned. I love being able to open the sunroof. Didn't own it that long. Bought it mainly for the looks. It was past 100k miles, so that is most likely why I had so many problems with it. I think i kept it for about 2 years before I just gave up. Definately a chick magnet. Pretty good performance for a luxury sedan. I love the auto-stick, but a manual would have been even betterJul 31, 2008

This is our 2nd one. The first one was a 1999 and we loved it but, it had a mystery problem we never found the cause of because, the lease was up and the problem was very intermittent. We were going to be 'sensible' and get a Toyota, Honda or Nissan. So, we rented each car we were interested in and didn't love any. I got the Consumer Reports book for cars new and used cars and the 02 300m got much better reviews in comparison to the 1999. So, we bought another and we love it. We made a trip to Vegas in 2001 and rented a 300M and it became one of my dream cars. Recently when looking for a second car we found this exceptionally clean car with 79,000 miles on it. After a number of 4 cylinder cars and diesel pickups this is a breath of fresh air. Having had three Mopar muscle cars in the 60's I realize not all the power is there, but is an acceptable performance car for this age. The luxury and economy is a welcome plus in addition to a V6 that can push me back in the seat.
2011 - Now has 106,000 Miles. My favorite car!
2012 - Replaced front of engine - Timing Belt, Water Pump, Belt tigteners, everything I couldn't get to inside the front engine cover.

I replaced my 2000 Intrepid ES (3.2L) after 135,000 miles of virtually trouble free operation. I replaced it with a Low Mileage '02 300M Special. It has the optional performance suspension upgrade including the 18" Wheels & Michelin Pilot Sport Tires.

Style and looks are what this car is all about. The 18inch wheels now have Bridgestones on them for a little quieter ride and improved handling. I've got a 60 mile round trip daily commute and its a joy to drive. Only drawback is the mileage. Best I could get was 26mpg on a level road. Mar 04, 2007

All of a sudden we smell fuel inside the car after it is started, HELP!
When we first started the car this morning we smelled a strong fuel smell. Didn't think much of it then. Made 2 stops when we were out and again smelled it. When we got home I got out and walked around it after it was parked and could smell it strongly on the driver's side but, not on the passnger side. We looked under the hood nothing untoward. Under the car the only thing dripping was the a/c. Any ideas?
