Fans of the BMW Z3 are likely to argue that the company's last version, produced in 2002, was its best. Six years of "consistent and conscientious development" and wider acceptance of its "sawed off" appearance made the 2002 Z3 one of BMW's better selling, high performance sports cars.
The engine jumped from the original 138-horsepower 1.9-liter four-cylinder to an available 225-horsepower 3.0-liter six-cylinder, reducing 0 to 60 mph acceleration performance from about 8 seconds to less than 6.
Most of all, the car was built to go fast. "We didn't fully appreciate the Z3 until we drove it fast, and the faster we drove it the more we appreciated it," wrote one professional test driver. "If you want to feel the fantastic smoothness of the BMW inline-six, try 6000 rpm in third gear, at which point you'll be pushing 90."

October 20, 2023Purchased this car as a replacement for a Goldwing motorcycle. Have never regretted that decision. It is LOADS of fun! I happened to find a low-mileage car, that had been babied. It has plenty of power, very agile. It's actually a 3.0 liter engine, manual trans, and came with a removable hardtop, so it's a great 3 1/2 season car. Since it's my toy, it doesn't come out of the garage if there's and ice or fresh snow on the ground. I have driven it on New Year's Day, though, with the TOP DOWN. I Love the body-lines on this car, far better than the Z4. Mine has not needed any major repairs. New Tires are the most expensive thing I have had to do for it. Upgraded the brakes - just because I wanted to. Holds the road, giving me as much performance as I want.

February 6, 2008performance great..very fast. appearance can turn head away. use of gas is affordable. very fun to drive. and the cist is worth it. maintenance can be a little expensive but it dioesnt matter coz its fun and exciting to drive this car
September 29, 2010A great car to drive .. get the 5 speed .. a true sports car the way it should be .. so much fun with the top down .. stereo needs help with a better head unit makes a big difference.
February 19, 2021This car performance and great handling are hard to find in any car. It has great power to weight ratio, is not under power, and still for being a 2002, it still shocks people that have not seen a vehicle like this.
June 28, 2014Not the fastest car in the world. It's decently quick, and extremely nimble. I have yet to have any real build quality issues with the car except for having to replace the shifter knob once. The air conditioning is weak, but the heating is remarkably good.
April 2, 2010BMW Z3 Coupe, aka the Clown Shoe, is an iconic vehicle. It is a lot like nothing else. Eccentric looking, but practical. Only made for 4 years, the Z3 Couple is rare and a real head turner, plus it is a blast to drive.
