There are some weak points in design and materials, well documented on the forums and elsewhere. But this is a great value if you can do some of the repair and maintenance yourself. If not, youll go broke. This is an 18-year-old auto after all. E39 owners are a strong internet community; theres so much help available.

The 2002 BMW known as E39 series is a fun car to drive. It tracks the road like no other car I have owned and it does corners like it is on rails. When going straight down the road you feel so secure.with little body roll. The engine is smooth without a turbo lag which has become the normal in most cars. The Power comes on in quickly and with good acceleration. The 2002 BMW doesnt have much in electronics but it surprises me how enjoyable driving becomes when you dont have all the distractions from electronic gadgets in your. sight.

BMW 5 series 2001-03 are by far the best classic model of sports car that Ive ever driven. Super fast, lots of power, very attractive car when you take good care of it.

Love It — This is a great car. We have taken it on several road trips. Very comfortable ride and it will pass almost anything on the hwy. great stereo. I'm 6'2 230lbs and have more than enough room in the front or back.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Sporty, comfortable, plenty of leg room

Cons: Wish it had Bluetooth, nav, etc but wasn't as available in 2002

Beautiful. Simply Beautiful — This is an awesome car for the price. Enough power for the highway, but not enough during red light to red light. That's ok, since I've had enough tickets from previous sports cars. lol. All and all, a very solid car.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great stopping power. Love the mid-range pickup. For a non-sport model, It has great handling.

Cons: Not enough pickup and go from stop. Had to replace radiator, alternator, and battery as soon as I brought it.  Fortunately, they were covered by warranty.

I'm Sold On Bmw — One of the best cars I have ever owned. I will have trouble not owning a BMW. A driver's car. It's fit, finish, quality and performance will rival today's best luxury cars. The ultimate driving machine. Do yourself a favor and test drive one.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Performance, Quality and Appearance are unmatched

Cons: The only reason -- Price

The Only Car I Ever Had That Was This Much Fun To Drive Was My 1965 Corvette With Solid Lifters. — The car drives like a slot car.....very little lean and it never feels like it will get away from you. Acceleration is fine for me and on the highway, it doesn't even feel like you're moving. I have to pay attention as one time I had the car over 75 and didn't feel as though I was moving. I really like the 2 tone interior with the wood accents. The sport seats are very comfortable and the air conditioner is first rate. The Xenon headlamps are cool and I especially like the sport steering wheel as, in 2002 at least, they came from th e 'M' series and has the 'M' logo on the wheel. There are also some very nice amenities such as the memory seat (3 settings can be saved), the passenger mirror that automatically points downward when you go in reverse, the thigh support in the seat, emergency flashlight in the glove box that is kept charged when placed in the docking station, and the lights in the door that illuminate the ground when you open the doors.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great handling and a solid feel.

Cons: Don't buy them new......I only paid 1/3 of what the car originally sold for.
