I Do Really Love The Size, Driver's Height, And Usefulness Of Theastro — Trouble free for the first 97k miles. Then, I had my share of repairs but, it is in good-excellent condition now. New "long block" V6 and trans rebuilt within last two years. All-in-all, it has served me well. I get 17 MPG around town which I think is pretty good, considering all.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: 4x8 sheet goods lays flat in cargo area. decent economy, considering size

Cons: spent quite a bit to keep it road worthy since 2010

My Clear Bra Van — Can I say fourty words about my Van? I will Try. It is my work van. Thats all I can say about it. It hauls me and my gear from job to job and so far has not let me down and hope that she never does. So far she has been a great van even with over 120,000 miles on her.

Pros: It works for what I need it and more!

Cons: It does not have a V8

2001 Chevrolet Astro LT Extended RWD Review
says:
owned for 9 years from 80k miles to 165k miles. Mild to Moderate issues ranging from window motors to power steering leaks at the r&p. Style is basic but nice, cosmetically holds up well. comfortability is good enough for longer trips. a good value for a larger family. My father owns the same model we used when i was younger and was converted to use for work as cargo van - that one now has 400k miles and runs strong - that one only needed tranny rebuilt after about 150k each.

"I own both and the astro/Safari has held up for better than the Ram. Chairs are more comfortable on longer trips and paint has help up much better. The Ram Van is very basic whereas the astro was designed to be for family friendly/economy luxury :)"
Value Ranked 2001 Dodge Ram Van 3500 Maxi Extended Cargo RWD worse.
"one word - RELIABILITY. Maybe its my luck with my dodge but multiple sources dont have much good to say about these ram vans mechanically. The Astro gets better mpg at 16/18 versus the ram at 10/10. The ram van is better for hauling more (passengers or cargo) so it just depends on your circumstances and needs."
