The Toyota Tacoma stayed virtually the same for the 2000 model year.
The 2000 Toyota Tacoma was available in nine different configurations: the Regular Cab, Xtracab, and Xtracab V6 in 2WD or 4WD, Limited Xtracab 4WD, PreRunner 2WD, and PreRunner V6 2WD. The base engine was a 2.4-liter 142-hp 4-cylinder. The 4WDs came standard with a 2.7-liter 150-hp four. The V6 has 3.4 liters and 190 hp. Fuel economy was about 17/20 mpg.
Drivers of the 2000 Toyota Tacoma like its small size, excellent off-road capabilities, and Toyota reliability. Many drivers say the extended cab's second-row seating is suitable for children only, and some find the ride too bumpy.

People don’t buy Toyota’s for features. They buy for function and reliability. There is no other model/make to compare to. Toyota hands down is worlds ahead of any other maker and hold value like no other. Feb 13, 2021

This generation of Tacoma is still very sought after by Toyota fans.
Easy to maintain, should exceed 200,000 miles with very little maintenance.

Great little truck, dependable, great off road vehicle. Good in all weather conditions. Would prefer it to any jeep. I buy these in good condition whenever I can. Less stuff on it to repair ie hand cranked windows. You need one.May 10, 2015

the size and enjoyable to drive has a nice ride, useful for the work i do with hunting halling wood , mulch. great in the snow, off road its great , great on backroads. handles well on wet roads as well. dependable

this truck has great power brakes tend to fade after a couple hard brake applications great quality interior is a bit plain an cheap no squeaks or rattles it a very low mantenace vehicle i changed the timing belt cost almost 800 dollars it gets about 15.6 city an 20.6 highway its a fun small truck to drive!!!

My truck...it is truck-like, and therefore it is not very fun to drive. If I could go back in time, I would tell the car salesman who showed me my truck that I did indeed want a V6, not the weeny 4 cylinder, but I guess hindsight is 20/20, eh?Jun 28, 2010

Performace is really good, I had standard so the acceleration was excellent. The only "repairs" I needed for it was an engine check up and it used more oil than it was supposed too. The gas mileage was really good for a truck that size. Looks great and it's fun to drive!May 05, 2010

Good truck, leased for family business, towed over recomended limit. Long engine life, mine has 220,000+ miles and still running strong, just very numb steering, not exciting to drive and slightly stiff springs. But overall a very good and reliable truck.Jul 27, 2009

190 HP is okay by today's standards, but not exactly a rocket. Braking is fantastic. Mine has the TRD offroad package, which makes it sit high, causing quite a bit of sway and roll on sharp turns/curves. Large tires help it stick well during acceleration and braking. Great in the snow. Toyota quality can't be beat. TCO is the lowest for any car I've ever owned. Jul 19, 2009

This is the second Toyota truck I have owned and have had several in the family. I love the dependability and functionality of them; their resale value is exceptional and are always in high demand. For the occasions when I do go off-road, it's nice to have a vehicle that can take it. Its performance is good but is not the most comfortable vehicle for long trips. Because of the 5-speed it's also no fun in stop and go traffic. The build quality is top-notch and I much prefer this body style to the newer ones. With 103K on it, it's just getting broken in and I've had minimal expense in repairs. For the money, I believe this to be the best small truck on the road. Jan 11, 2009

I only had this truck for about 2.5 years, but it was a good truck for the 43,000 miles it spent with me. I sold it to a local guy because I, for some reason, decided I needed motorcycle more than a truck. Don't get me wrong, the motorcycle was fun, but a truck is SO useful...Sep 02, 2008

My truck is like my horse, I spent a lot of time with it to make it like I wanted it. I did extensive performance and suspension modification over the years but now it's getting older and I know eventually it will be bought back by Toyota for frame corrosion. so for a 4 cyl truck it performed ok. can't turn worth a dime. horrid jack and spare tire placement. really bad gas mileage for a 4 cyl. engine blew up (sucked a rod) @ 120K. May 13, 2008

Good reliability but if you want this pick-up take the V6 it's worth it. Over all I love my car for its fuel economy and for its look. The only thing I don't like is the miss of power and and the building quality wich is not that bad if you never worked on farm. Teel you!!May 07, 2008
