2000 Dodge Stratus Reviews, Pricing & Specs
Write a review
For 2000, the base model of the Dodge Stratus was renamed the SE, and this change in name brought forth some changes in the mid-sized sedan. The 2.4-liter engine has been removed as an option in 2000, with the 2.0-liter and 2.5 coming standard in the SE and ES, respectively. Gas mileage of the 2000 Stratus varies from 19 city miles-36 highway miles, depending on which trim you have. While the 2000 Dodge Stratus is certainly not known as an acceleration or speed powerhorse, either engine produces enough horsepower to get you and your family wherever it is that you need to go.
Comforts in the 2000 Dodge Stratus are abundant. Air conditioning, a CD changer, leather seats, and a moonroof are all available. Safety has not been forgotten either, with available 4 wheel anti-lock brakes, power locks, an anti-theft system, and passenger and driver airbags. With all of the safety and features crammed into the 2000 Dodge Stratus, there is still plenty of room in both the trunk and the passenger compartment for whatever you might want to reasonably carry, be it groceries or children.
The overwhelming complaint in the 2000 Dodge Stratus was that the cup holders are too small and that they are too far away. While this was common in all years, the sheer number of these comments was astounding. Overall, there were few consistent problems in owner reviews. Transmissions and brakes were brought up numerous times, but not nearly as often as years before. Owners of the 2000 Dodge Stratus seem to think that this is a good little car, perfect for day-to-day family driving.

Idling too high
My 2000 Dodge Stratus had a bad distributor. The dealer wanted to charge $1600 to replace the part. I went ahead and did it myself. Once I got things back together, the car started right up, however now the idle speed is way too high. This was not a problem before the distributor went out. From what I read on the forums, the idle speed is controlled by the control module and not adjustable. Is this true? If so, what could be causing this issue? One thought is a vacuum problem. The throttle body gasket had a tear in it. Perhaps this is causing the high idle. dgp
Stratus 2000 2.5L Distributor Testing
My 6 Cyclinder, 2.5L Dodge Stratus 2000 has a bad distributor or at least I believe it does. I pulled out the distributor, but it turns out Advanance Autoparts no longer check distributors. Before I buy a new distributor and put it in, I had two questions. First, what things can I do at home with just a multimeter to check out the distributor. And secondly, Advanced Autoparts sells a refirb distributor for just over $200. On Ebay, I can get a new distributor from King-Auto Parts for less than $100. Does anyone see anything wrong with getting the after market distributor? Thanks, dgp By the way, I'll include why I think my distributor is bad down here. The Stratus simply stopped running while my daughter was driving it down the street. It would crank, just not turn over. I had it towed to a mechanic where they first said it was getting gas, but not getting a spark. They didn't want to just start replacing parts, so they told me to take it to the dealer -- which was odd. I asked them to at least check the distributor and they said that the distributor needed to be replaced. I called the dealer and they gave me a quote of $1600. I told them that the car wasn't even worth that much and I would have to do it myself. I asked if the distributor was easy to access and they said it was an hour and a half of labor. At first, I simply removed the distributor cap and checked it out. It looked to have enough build up to warrant replacing it, although I didn't think that was the problem. I also decided to simply crank the ignition with the cap off to see if the rotor was spinning. The car didn't crank and I mistakenly thought that it was because of the distributor cap being off. I later realized that the fuse had blown while I was working on the car. I removed the plenum over the intake and pulled the entire distributor at that point.
My 2000 dodge stratus
I went to auto zone and the did a diagnostic test that said my ecm box needed replaced so I bought one from them put it in and now my car is running worse. What could be the problem? What can I do?
