If all base models were as "basic" as the 1999 Volvo S70 STD Sedan, the world would be full of happy drivers.
Not only does this little number deliver fine fuel economy (20-21 city/28-29 highway), it does it with all the safety features you could ask for (their patented Side Impact Protection System leads the way, and ABS comes standard), and then some. This is a Volvo, after all.
Just as the Swedes consider that safety level to be a necessity rather than a luxury, they look on bells and whistles with similar regard. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, and power door locks. Oh yes, and we can't forget that other given: Volvo's stylish design!

Since the 1999 Volvo S70 GLT Sedan is not available in a manual transmission, you'll have to be content with the 4-speed automatic overdrive. But we're sure that you won't complain, especially when you fill 'er up and see how far that takes you (20 city/27 highway).
Be aware that turbo-charged engines are notorious for leaky oil seals, so be vigilant on the routine maintenance. One user also cautioned that allowing these engines to idle excessively will contribute to this problem.
Power seats join the list of standard equipment for this car, but the CD player remains optional. But hey, who needs it? It'll only drown out that lovely turbo whistle.

Those who won't let a little snow alter their routine love the 1999 Volvo S70 Turbo AWD Sedan. So, you trade off a tiny bit of your mpg rating (18 city/25 highway) for the accented safety and handling of full-time all-wheel drive. Don't count on regretting it, even if you live someplace where snowflakes are as likely to come out of the sky as flying pigs.
The 2.4-liter, 190 hp engine keeps things moving along at a satisfying clip, and the ABS and traction control (both standard equipment on the 1999 S70 AWD) ensure safe travels. As if that's not enough, you and your occupants enjoy royal comfort all the way. It's a bit surprising that leather isn't the standard interior offering, but then again that's not much to complain about.
Be mindful of the problems often associated with a turbo engine's oil seals; they tend to develop leaks. Just keep up with regular oil changes and check your parking space for drips.
