Black Beauty — Our 1997 RAV4 was a workhorse. It would probably have lasted forever, except we loaned it to a friend of our son who didn't check the oil when the oil light came on. We logged over 150,000 miles on it with nothing more than routine service, and it had 32K on it when we bought it. We drove it from home out to Montana one year, and other than being a little slow going up grade, it was a fun "little" SUV. We went camping often, and it stowed a lot of gear and carried our kayaks on top. It was a little small on leg room in front and back, but then I'm pretty tall (over 6'5"). We live up a small hill, and we never had a problem with traction in the winter, while others were spinning their wheels. I haven't driven any of the newer RAV4's, but the 1997 was a great car.

    Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great traction in the ice and snow of Michigan winters, and not bad gas mileage on the dry summer pavement. We hauled my wife's artwork and often camping gear. In the summer, the kayaks went up until time to take them down after the first big snows. Dependable, reliable, sure footed.

Cons: The 2 liter 4 cylinder would max out going up long grades--we trudged through the Rockies on a trip out west. There's no legroom in back if you are anything but a small person. There's not much legroom in front if you're a very tall person. My knees grazed the fascia on the dash.

The Rav4 Is Less Expensive But It's Very Reliable Compare To Other Suv's — My RAV4 is awesome, compared to a 4 door. The unique space for 2 persons than have to much room. The exciment with just going to a peak in San Francisco and Utah are the best equiped machine, that anyone would love. I love my RAV4. It's awesome.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: The navigation to peak to peak

Cons: always check on the CV boots time to time

1997 Toyota Rav4 — There isn't much I can say about my car, it gets me from point A to point B. I haven't had many maintenance issues with my car despite its age. We've used the car several times to move and I must say we've managed to haul a lot of stuff. The ride is a bit rough, as to be expected from an SUV, its especially bumpy and rather cramped in the rear seat.

Pros: Interior space for stuff, few maintenence issues , decent gas mileage

    Cons: rough ride, road noise

Rav4 — engine is way to small for a car of that size, slow acceleration, can handle any type of weather, decent on gas, a little noisy to drive on the thruway, a bit over 3k rpm going 65 mph in overdrive, so not really good for long trips, stock sound system sucks, but w/e

Pros: fun, able to take harsh weather conditions

    Cons: slow acceleration, loud

Sharp And Dependable — My wife loves this car because it looks good. I lke it because its a Toyota. I don't worry about it breaking down on her. This car replaced another 1997 RAV4 that she had that was totalled in a head on collision that she walked away from. We ended up buying the exact car, even down to the color all over again.

Pros: Sharp looking and very dependable suv

    Cons: A little small.

1997 Toyota Rav4 — Great Cute Suv from Toyota. 1st Generation was the smallest and still very popular. A very solid vehicle.

    Pros: Was a nice SUV

    Cons: Sold it
