performance was not bad considering the size of the car the 3.5 straight 6 is a good engine i did not have any problems with it at all the only thing when i had it there was an air lock in the cooling system which was easy to sort out .
acceleration was not blistering but would put alot of boy racers to shame .
the braking was good abs worked well .the handling was a challenging it had the standard wheels and Tires on so it was a bit tail happy especially in the wet .
build quality was good every thing still worked inside the car the styling was good plenty of room front and back good quality leather its a nice place to sit in on long journeys.
i paid next to nothing for the car itself insurance was quite cheap i did go through some tires for the back but that was my fault lol if i could take it easy i would get mid 20s to the gallon .i thought it was a fun car to drive fast in a straight line and fun around corners Jul 07, 2012

I love the Power and the Handling. I like the Heated Front and Rear Seats and Heated steering wheel in the Winter Months. The seats are extremely comfortable and the Rear seats even Recline. I love the shock value when you pull up at a gas station and people freak out when they see V12 on the sides and back of the car. The only thing I don't like is Gas Mileage but thats okay, I make enough money to afford it and 20 dollars every 2 days isnt that bad for as much as I drive.Mar 28, 2012

This is the best car I have owned by a long way. I bought it to drive to Finland when I moved there and cruised through Europe in comfort. The boot swallowed all my belongings. It sounds like a dream.Apr 07, 2011

Performance:handles well all around
Build:needs serious repairs-transmission is totally destroyed
Appearance: inside is in good condition, outside has minor scratches with one serious dent in the passenger door.
Cost: fairly expensive to drive-PREMIUM GAS ONLY... about 12 mpg (based on my driving)

Solid car, very well built but for the size of the engine it got terrible fuel economy.
very high cost to maintain and once the electrical system had a bug in it everything
else usually started to fail. not very good acceleration but did have a very high top
end making it an excellent car for highway use. handling was surprisingly good

While the thing says 735, what I actually had was an L7 which was a special edition of the 7 series released only in Germany. Mine was imported from Munich so everything was in KPH. I loved that car because it had double wrapped leather in the interior. BMW took the stock black leather and wrapped it with a special white leather. It was sick. 2 months after I put about $3000 worth of work into it, a woman who was talking on her cell phone, holding a chihuahua and driving with her knee hit and totaled out my beloved Bimmer. Probably the best 4 door sedan around ...ever... in terms of reliability ease of maintenance comfort and performance. Hell...I own 2 a 1989 735il with 200k + and a 1991 as well...Really great automobiles...These cars are really easy to maintain and parts are readily available and affordable from non-dealer parts houses. facebook didnt allow me to enter it accurately, mine was a 1983 733i - rare 5 speed - meaty BBS RS 16x8 in 225's - Silberblau w/Navy Interior - euro "big n small" headlight & grill combo ... the most "dynamic" driving large car I've had the pleasure of getting behind the wheel of ... too bad the throttle reurn spring failed in my underground parking lot at Qwest (in Arlington) and hit a concrete support at full throttle and killed itself ... I thought it was going to bring down the building - this thing was a tank - just happened to be a fun to drive tank !

It is a 1986 but Car IQ only has 1996 listed for year. It is a GREAT looking car, for the Midwest, but does not run at the moment. Hoping to tow it to Detroit soon and fix that. Difficult to pass up a car this clean.Oct 12, 2009

Low end acceleration a bit sluggish, but overall excellent car. Great in all types of climates. Big but can turn just as good if not better than smaller sedans. Lovely on the Autobahn. Still respected as one of the greats. Jul 31, 2009

She drives well but is starting to show her age. Paint is no existant on the roof and the dashboard is cracked from the sun. Apart from that, everything works and she still pulls like a train. Braking is interesting.May 30, 2009

This is the second "older" BMW that I have owned and I've enjoyed both. They have their issues, after all they are over 20 years old, but they are still fun to drive. This is a big six cyliner with an automatic and gets 26 mpg on the highway. Not bad for a "big" car, which it really isn't. Ride quality is excellent as is build quality. Back when these were built they were exceptionally expensive, the sticker on this one was over $35,000 in 1987. I love the appearance of these cars. My first was an '83 733 with a 5 speed. I added aftermarket wheels, Dunlop tires, a rear spoiler and dropped the front an inch and a half. Wish I had pictures to post. Dec 17, 2008

Bought it used from a party, have served me very well over 5 years, but it is aging and the age is now showing even though I try to keep up the maintenance. Undoubtedly, it is fun to drive, especially long distances. Driving from California to Colorado was a breeze.Oct 11, 2008

Its a BMW. No matter what year it is, Bimmers are classy cars!!! Runs like a dream and handles the same. Has a six cylinder but doesnt give up power. For an average person this car would probably cost a bit for repairs but if you are mechanicaly inclined it is not hard or expensive to do the work yourself.Sep 30, 2008

not a bad car really - very heavy but could also be quite economical if you drive it steady. stereo crap..... very basic dash board as well. parts were very cheap from factor companies. air con and heaters tend to pack up as well which gets very expensive to fix. wouldn't have another.....Aug 05, 2008

Worst car I have ever owned. Its regulator busted a long time ago. The engine, transmission, and interior all had issues. The car took too much gas. I can't rag on this car enough. Never buy this car unless you plan on investing thousands of dollars to repair it. Not a car to buy.Aug 02, 2008

BMW 735i 1988 silver is an amazing car it looks amazing great acceleration handling is fantastic it has needed some electrical repairs the instrument cluster has gone out. and lights have needed replacing but you must remember this car was made in 1988. It looks great one of my favorite body styles of older model BMW's. I get about 17-23 MPG. It the fastest car among all of my friends tops out at 160 good for racing other stock cars. It's actually a 1993 740i (e32). This one has been in my family from the start. My dad bought it at Competition & Sports in Greenwich in 1993. He drove it for about 20k miles. My brother-in-law drove it for another 60k miles in the SF Bay area. I've had it since 2003 - 140k miles and still going strong!May 03, 2008
