One of the last MB cars hand-made in Germany, best car I ever owned, including later year MB cars. If you own one, KEEP IT. If you are looking for one and find it, BUY IT! If you do standard maintenance, the cars will last forever, high miles are no issue. Enjoy the car!

My Fine German Motorcar — I have wanted a W124 chassis E Class since I was a teenager. When I saw the brilliant, emerald green E320, I had to have it. Although I never drive in snow, with good tires it handles ok in the rain and well on dry pavement. My friend's '94 530i had less body roll, but my Benz kept up with him on country, mountain roads. The front seats offer fantastic support ; I always feel relaxed and fresh after long trips. It's smooth as glass on the highway. Although it's never left me stranded, I have had to put a lot of preventative maintenance into it and that's not cheap. Great stock stereo with CD changer. When I drive my "boaty" Buick Park Avenue, I am cruising; when I am out in my Mercedes Benz, like a gentleman, I am motoring.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Classic styling. Very good build quality. Comfort and power with sensible, refined luxury.

Cons: Pricey to maintain. The climate control system isn't great.

Great Car But Mediocre Gas Mileage — I do not like the fact that you have to use Premium fuel for this car and get only 18 mpg. The car feels very solid and safe on the highway. I feel protected well when I am in it. This would be a good first car for a new driver. Not too fast, not too dorky (it's a Benz!), but safe enough for that inevitable first accident.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Great Handling car. Very spacious. Pretty quick for its size and weight.

Cons: Gas Mileage is Horrible. I get about 18mpg in mixed driving.  If you look hard enough, you can see the needle move when you pull out of the gas station.

Very Fun Car — Really a sharp ride, good looking, easy to drive and fun to explore, especially on a nice day with the top down. This is pure top-down convertible mania, in a truly Classic Automobile. This is my hobby and life's project to keep it a really nice and appreciated car.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: The look, the feel, the ride

Cons: Need to find a very good Mercedes repairman, just in case.

E320 My First Accomplishment — Excellent for Mercedes Beginners, super fun. The economy in the city is crap but very cheap on the highway or open road....really fast!! What´s best is that classic E class look and the durability of the engine is very impressive.

Pros: Great looks

Cons: Find the spare parts

How Quickly It Becomes One Of Your Proze Posessions And The Feeling You Cant Live Without It. — This car floats on the interstate at 70mph/ 2500RPM like you're flying. Parallel park it and watch people as they walk by: as many looks as any car in front or behind. Do not drive this car (especially a red x tan one) if you cant live with attention. Plenty of power and 20-plus MPG. Few cars have this much panache at 15-plus years. Imagine when it's 30. This is what $70,000 bought in 1995. Think Elizabeth Taylor at 45.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: The feel, the grin factor, the luck you own it.

Cons: Can be a little pricy to maintain, but so's a beautiful woman.

Too Costly To Maintain —

Good performing car when it is working; but this car has been a nightmare since 5/08-Over $18,000 in repairs spent as of 12/10, yes I am not kidding; I must have had a louse screw to complete the repairs; for example; in 6/08-r/r-antenna mast, emission parts, brakes, lub and oil at a cost of $2,661.25 (I think I got ripped off a little bit); 8/08-Throttle Actuator, PCV Hose, Shift Linkage Bushing, Distributor Caps @ $1,629.74; 9/08-Engine Mounts @ $660.67; 10/08-r/r Radiator, fan blade, used fan clutch (never buy a used part) $1,423.72; 6/09-Oil Pan Gasket, Valve Cover Gasket, Bosch Plug wire/Set, Power Steering Pump rebuilt @ $2,046.34; 9/09-r/r-Control Arm, Shock Absorbers, OEM-Link Arm, Suspension-Rear Left @ $911; 9/09-Repair Radio Volume Knob (yes they all go out in the orginal radio and I actually found someone to fix it) @ $60; 2/10-r/r camshaft position sensor, r/r-crankshaft position sensor; r/r distributor cap; r/r ignition coil, fuel injector; r/r-vacuum hoses valve cover to intake manifold for parts and labor @ $2,245.08, milage at this time was only 96,879.; 3/10-r/r antenna assembly motor @ $509.98; 5/10-replaced vaccum hose on transmission including trans service @ $155.48; 7/10-replace oil pan and oil sender unit plus lube and oil @ $553.36; 8/10-Replace Wiring Harness (all of the Mercedes need this one to be replace for this year and a few other years) @ $437.55; 11/10-Drive Belt Replaced, Front Pads Replaced, again power steering pump needed repair (should have bought a new one, but under warranty) @ $762.36; 12/10-Transmission currently being rebuilt approx. $1,400 to $1,600; Do not buy a used E420; this car has always been taken care of.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Drives Well When Repaired

Cons: Just breaks down to much
