1995 marked the year the Chevrolet Monte Carlo returned to the Chevrolet line-up and regained its identity as a sports coupe worthy of comparison to the Ford Thunderbird.
Although harkening back to its roots in some ways, this car was a first in others: It was the first front-wheel drive version of the Monte Carlo. The available engines included a 3.1-liter V6 and a 3.4-liter, 215-horsepower DOHC V6.

I bought it to replace the Beretta. The z34 with the 3.4 Twin Cam is a decent car, moderate power with good control (four wheel independant suspension). The 3.4's are expensive to mod so they are cheap cars to get used if you plan to leave them stock. The car runs and drives perfect but the transmission is failing, which is a week point in these cars.Feb 06, 2014

Mine was black with a gray leather interior. The V-6 had enough power and the got good gas mileage. Trunk was huge and front and back seats were very comfortable. It was a great highway cruiser. It always attracted compliments wherever I went.Jan 12, 2013

Overall this is my favorite car. Shes got great Torque to HP ratio. Decent gas mileage. Its a great car if you know what to tinker with. Did a Suspension upgrade and a Front disc break and pad change. She stops better and accelerates amazingly. Aug 09, 2011

I got this car for $500 and it doesn't owe me a dime. Other than a severe oil leak that would take 12 hrs to fix I just add about a quart a week. This car is like a Monte SS. They didn't make the SS for a few years so they made the Z-34 instead. This car is a blast to drive, even though it weighs like 2 tons it's got sufficient power.Mar 20, 2010

I bought the car with 98000 miles on it. It runs great for the
$1200 I bought it for. I have not had any problems yet. The
transmission was rebuilt when I got it. It has great acceleration
and handling. It's fun to drive. The downside are that it's front
wheel drive, and the engine is difficult to work on.Sep 04, 2009

I just got the car about 6 months ago with 95000 on it. The acceleration is great for a 3.4L Its seeming to go through brake pads on the driver front, it has an idle problem and a hifting problem. I do not like the lumina look a like styling. gas milage is terrible im getting 12 combined city/hwy. its not worth selling im this condition and its going to take more than what its worth to fix. Didnt do my research before i bought the "X" Engine. I believe my 95 was the last year they made the 3.4, if not the second to last year. Shoulda spent the extra cash on the wonderful 3800 they're using for the Chevy/GM standard..
I've ended putting in at least $3600 into it since, with fantastic results. ($3600 is what i paid for it)
Shes quick...damn quick. Cherry Bomb Mufflers makin her sound pretty damkn decent too.May 16, 2009

I have never been a chevy fan, but I like my Monte. I bought it 2 years ago with 157,000 miles. Now it's got 213,000 and still going strong.
I was getting poor milage til I had the transmission rebuilt. I didn't even realize overdrive wasn't working! Now it always gets high 20's and I even pulled 30.2 mpg at 80 mph while crossing Tennessee.
I love the power and the high revs of the engine, and I use it often. The motor reminds me of the high reving mopar small blocks. Usually a chevy engine doesn't hold up to my style of driving, but this motor seems to thrive on being used!
On the down side, it is one of the hardest motors I have ever had to work on. It has a poor design for an oil leak where the distributor used to be, and it takes a long time to bleed the cooling system.
I like the appearance of the car because it doesn't grab attention. I also like that I do not have a wing or any bright emblems advertising the Z34 package. Other than the 2 tailpipes, it looks like a regular monte. Noone expects a 2-door Lumina to run with the V-8's.
The Z34 handles great with a great feel to the steering, but it doesn't turn very sharp for parking.
I have had problems keeping the back brakes working properly and finally just converted the whole brake system to regular brakes, not anti-lock. Now I have better brakes than ever, but I still have a lot of brake fade while driving in the rain. Apr 23, 2009

It was a good car. I built it from the ground up but it was too old. It tried it's best 'till the very end. I would recommend a better condition one. Great power, nice smooth look about it. It was fun while it lasted.

I loved this car and I really miss it. Not sure why, I can't really explain it. It completely died with 109k miles on it, so I had another engine put in and that one died about 500 miles later too. Build quality was ok even though a couple lights on the dash didn't work. Jan 18, 2009

To start, I have been preaching the word of the Monte Carlo since the 7th grade. The 3.4L dual overhead cam engine has a unique torque curve, really kicking in at 4K RPM. The trans in my beast isn't too bad, it buzzes when its hot though. Gas mileage isn't great, but overall is ok. Except the cost of fixing it. Its expensive. And just like me, she hates sitting in traffic.Oct 06, 2008

I believe the Monte Carlo is a good car to own as a second car or work car. Of course I bought it used 12 years old now with 122,000 miles on it. I believe if I had bought it new with normal upkeep it would be a great car.
I love the looks and performance but the gas mileage is pretty bad.
Still a work in progress.Oct 15, 2007
